Foreword 'Maths through Language' is a collection of work packages that have been tried and used successfully in the classroom. They provide children with the opportunity to develop their problem-solving skills.

pl e

The work packages have been designed to make children aware of mathematics in their everyday life. Each package is set in an environment familiar to children, or one in which they are interested.

They can be used with the whole class, in small groups or with individuals. It is intended that concrete materials be used by children when doing these problem-solving activities.

Sa m

As practising classroom teachers, we have found these to be a valuable and worthwhile resource in our teaching.
