to the 12th Hull Pride, during a year in which many Yorkshire based prides have ceased to be. We continue to gain support and help from sponsors, venues and well wishers which allows us to provide an amazing opportunity of celebration and focus on diversity like no other event in the city’s cultural plan. It is an honour to be involved with a team that continues to work so very hard in a voluntary capacity to overcome financial challenges. We bring you a weekend extravaganza, that is designed to showcase our LGBT+ community. We have an increasing selection of support organisations with us this year, so please visit each and everyone because they are here for us all. Thank you to those companies who have advertised in this guide and thus made it possible to produce a quality souvenir of the event.

It is truly humbling to have so many people from our community and our straight allies being so enthusiastic about Pride and it’s continued relevance in today’s society. This is especially true as we move

towards equal marriage. Our 2013 silicone wristbands reflect this special year, sporting the equal marriage symbol. With several additions like the “Walk with Pride”, free wifi, a developing App. and live streaming it’s a valuable opportunity to extend this amazing atmosphere of fun, love and personal freedom to a much wider community. I hope you tweet, instagram, blog and status update till your heart’s content, all at no extra cost. Let’s show the world what amazing quality of talent our main stage and performance arena has to offer. We are very grateful to everyone who makes this event possible by using their skills and abilities to realise our dream. This event shows that homophobia and transphobia will not be tolerated and that you are not alone and should not have to put up with bullying and bigotry, at home, school or in the workplace. Be proud of who you are! Love Hull Pride

“It’s wonderful to see that Hull’s LGBT community is supported by an amazing Pride and although I cannot be with you Hull, I send my love & support” Derren Brown “I am proud to support Hull Pride 2013. Humberside Police has always had strong links with the LGBT community and I am committed to ensuring this continues. I look forward to joining you on what will be a fantastic celebration weekend.” Matthew Grove Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside

“The 21st Century has witnessed a notable shift in public attitudes. It is increasingly recognised that discrimination against people on grounds of sexual orientation has no place in a democracy. Getting rid of such discrimination makes for a happier, more productive and stable society. The existence and success of Hull Pride bears testimony to the great strides being made and shows how people can be brought together. I hope you have another great year.” Philip The Lord Norton of Louth (Professor of Government at University of Hull)

The Hardy Fund needs your help The Hardy Fund provides financial help to people living with HIV in Hull and East Yorkshire who face difficulty or extra expenditure because of their status. The fund aims to provide items or services which: • Cannot reasonably be afforded on current income • Are not available from other sources • Will improve someone’s quality of life. The fund has awarded monies for washing machines, cookers, microwaves, bedding and generalised living expenses. The Hardy Fund has been in existence since 1988 when Cornerhouse (formerly AIDS Action) was set up. The fund is administered through Cornerhouse and the Executive Committee makes decisions on how the money is allocated. This has become increasingly difficult over the last few years with the increase of applications twinned with the decrease in funds available. The Hardy Fund relies on different fundraising events throughout the year, including the sale of red ribbons over World AIDS Day. However, in

today’s economic climate, it has become increasingly more difficult to raise the kind of money that’s needed to support local people. The demands on the fund are extremely high and we often receive three to four applications a month compared to 5 years ago when we would receive one every couple of months. There is an assumption that because of the improvements in treatments available for HIV that people living with HIV do not need any further support; however, this is not the case. Work is often difficult to come by as there is still a huge amount of stigma associated with HIV, therefore, people are often on benefits which do not allow for constantly having to change bedding three or four times a night due to night sweats; or even to repair or purchase a second-hand washing machine to help with this situation. We do appreciate that there are others in similar situations; however, not all of them will face the discrimination that HIV positive

people have to face each day. There are very few avenues open to support hardship concerns and the Hardy Fund is crucial to offer some people the only lifeline they have. If you are interested in finding out more about the Hardy Fund or have ideas of how we can raise money for it then please come and talk to someone at the Cornerhouse stall. We will be there both days. Red Ribbons will be available for a donation so please support those living with HIV in Hull and East Yorkshire. Please send your donations to: The Hardy Fund Cornerhouse (Yorkshire Ltd) 29 Percy Street, Hull, HU2 8HL

The hunt is on for next year’s performers at Hull Pride 2013

Join In With Pride Andy, Sooz and Simon / Lucy will be sending out the mahoosive rainbow flag over the crowd, doing the “camp dances” and perhaps this year getting a little help from some very good friends. You are invited to join in as this bit of the show is now officially traditional.

Bears Aloud act donated by Fuel Hull Bears have become something of a phenomenon. Appearing at various clubs and gay pride events, they have literally been taking the crowd by storm. What on paper at least should not work… does. Five hairy, XL guys (well all except one and they’re fattening him up), slapping make-up on over their beards, donning extravagant wigs and slipping into shiny frocks are transformed into an entertainment tour de force.

Diva Fever Pride Night

Bowie Jane With a name like ‘Bowie’, you’d kinda think that a career in music would be a foregone conclusion for London based Australian singer/songwriter, Bowie Jane. But not so - Bowie’s been doing the whole ‘superhero’ thing - living a complete double existence - and all unbeknownst to her work colleagues. By day, a mild-manner criminal lawyer, but by night a fully-fledged musician, performing five to six nights a week and secretly courting what is fast becoming a bubbling career in music.

Thomas Teago Bradford R&B artist Thomas Teago is recording his debut album and has been showcasing it on a schools tour. He has been confirmed as a headline act at this year’s Liverpool Pride.
