NEW FACE OF PHILATELY

We perceive philately as a timeless international cultural phenomenon, a precious part of the world’s cultural heritage. It is a shared value and “common language” of millions of people from all over the world, across generations and continents, languages and cultures. Philately, among other things, preserves beautiful stories of stamps and their owners, allows us to build on and develop them, thus participating in the timelessness exceeding our lives. It has been proving itself successful in this way for 160 years now – an inherited tradition for which we are responsible!

Whom do we want to address in the non-philatelic world? 1. On a general level – the whole society

Our aim

PHILATELY MUST BECOME A COMMONLY USED TERM

Theory / Challenges / Tasks

2. On a special level – Individuals with a large investable property

2008-2018 + approx. 2,000 people = +20% of new names in the field, out of which 90% ‘small cap’

by 2028 again +20%, but already at least 20% of that number ‘big cap‘

THIS PART OF SOCIETY MUST TAKE PHILATELY INTO ACCOUNT!

Means What do we have and what can we use? We have philately as such and all it represents!

Creation • Philately means creating something and the joy from doing so, it means

knowledge, the pursuit of perfection and organizing things into a larger whole. It means a search, fascination and the way to happiness.

Joy of ownership • It is the joy of the ownership itself and, of course, an investment. Investment • The subject matter are rarities, that concentrate a long-term growth of its financial and cultural values.

Forming a personal identity • Philately is an inspiration, it is following examples set by others and

differentiating from them at the same time, it is competitiveness, it brings unique and the deepest satisfaction, it is the forming of a personal identity!

The way to contexts • Stamps are traces of historical events. They represent the context

of its creation, its ownership lineage and are in themselves biographies and stories.

Timeless aspect of ourselves • Building on stories and developing them, thus acquiring one‘s own timeless aspect.

It gives meaning • It gives meaning, it is a life style; never finished work extending beyond our lives.

Common language • At the same time, it is a common language – across generations,

cultures, languages, centuries, etc. And thus common universal experience, common story and meaning, motivation to understand foreign values and otherness.

Theory / Means

14 |

Respectability • It has a 160 year old tradition, which has proved itself successful and

thus philately lives on. This makes it respectable and therefore worth developing in this ever changing, chaotic and fleeting world. It is unique, which makes it exclusive and prestigious.

Prestige • Philately gives us prestige and we return prestige to philately. Shows exclusivity • Philately can show how something can be so unreachable, that it makes even money itself useless.

Part of national identities • It is culture-forming, it co-creates national identities and at the same and the international time is a respectable part of the international cultural heritage…to etc. cultural heritage

And finally • We can state that there is a great interest in membership amongst interesting personalities. Even the foreign philatelic community is interested in our work. • We also have the support of important collectors and investors who stand outside of the Club for various reasons – still, PPCP means further philatelic motivation for them. • We observe the following collateral phenomena: higher interest in stamps in the Czech Republic in general at the expense of other disciplines; new auction clients, their bigger turnovers, new market dynamics, communication, inquiries and a responsive attitude of media to the topic of philately.

38 |

WE HAVE MANAGED TO INSPIRE NEW COLLECTORS AND INVESTORS FROM OUR TARGET GROUPS. WE EXPECT AN EVEN GREATER INTENSITY OF SAID EFFECTS IN THE FUTURE.
