PRIMOLIFE | winter 2015

AS I SIT at my desk writing this I’m wearing a pair of the world’s warmest and most comfortable shoes - my trusty Wittner Laken Chelsea boots (left) for just $219.95. They’re warm and the perfect attire for this chilly winter’s day. Oh, and for your information, I am also clutching at my hot coffee cup in between body warming sips to try to warm up from said cup’s exterior before turning on the heater. And no, my desk is not located next to an ice rink. My office is just south facing and doesn’t get any direct sunlight. This may sound slightly kooky to you, especially if you live for summer - let’s face it, that’s 99% of the Australian population, right? Well, I’m going to confess that, being in the fashion industry, I’ve come to realise that some people actually wait all year for these chillier months. They genuinely look forward to the crisp transition of winter just so that they can pull out their winter accessories. And by ‘some people’, I also happen to mean me, myself and I. I personally love the winter seasonal transition and admittedly as I grow older, I have a new-found appreciation for winter boots and the varying styles that each new year brings with it. Boots to me are the one and only accessory guaranteed to keep me warm from the ground up. In fact my winter motto is now: you’ll never go cold with a good pair of stylish boots. I always looked on and adored the trend from afar, sticking to my stilettos, wedges and/or flats as I didn’t think that they could offer me such variety – but that’s all changed. If you’re currently not so fond of the boot, let alone fond of actually wearing boots in the office, and you’re wondering how you could incorporate a number of them into your shoe wardrobe this winter, then I’m going to show you how to do so

in style. So let’s start with one of my personal favourites: the riding boot. These beauties were originally made for horse riding, so each pair generally rise up the leg high enough to sit just below the knee or just on it plus they will likely have a small 2cm heel which was originally intended to keep the foot firmly in place inside the stirrup. Nowadays they’re great for running errands in and equally as stylish over a pair of jeans or leggings teamed with threequarter length leather gloves and a poncho, wrap or oversized overcoat. Everyone needs a great pair of riding boots; like the Dakota boot from Betts or a lovely pair with a stretch panel at the back like the Tony Bianco Panache boot and the Betts Riding Girl boot. Also I can’t go past Wittner’s Bridletop Narrow boots with their side top buckle. The riding boot is actually my shoe of choice for international travel too, as they fit like a glove and if the weather is wet at the other end, then they’re perfect for skipping through puddles. The next pair of must-haves that I’d advise for your growing boot collection has to be a pair of trendy Chelsea boots. Chelsea boots are my favourites this season as they too will likely have an elastic panel that features at the side - although some of the newer Chelsea styles don’t incorporate the it these days. These stylish boots will only come up to ankle height and will more than likely have a loop or tag at the back for easy maneuvering. The styles that I already have (and some that I can’t wait to wrap my feet in) are the Susan Croc embossed leather Chelsea boots – these are just delightful. I also love the Temper boot from Airflex, the Jonte boot from Wittner and the Chelsea Chain Flat boot from Louboutin – which are also a great choice if you’re primolife.com.au
