Tucked away on a grassy hilltop sits a magnificent place with views of trees, terrace gardens, Arno Valley and the city of Florence. Villa San Michele has to be seen in order to comprehend its exquisiteness. The villa, originally a monastery built in the 15th century, is now one of Europe’s most captivating and extravagant resorts. This fabulous structure at Villa San Michele is attributed to Michelangelo himself!

Notes by: Designer, Ann Shogren

The kitchen in Chateau Lyon reminds one of the kitchen in a European castle and at the same time, it’s modern amenities are there to help a chef create the most fabulous cuisine in the world.

“I can just imagine opening a bottle of incredible French wine and sipping it in this kitchen while the aroma of fresh French bread fills the air..." Talk about a hood. Wow! Incredible. This hood with serious copper accents in a work of art. So regal and yet so creative at the same time. issue two PREMIERE DESIGNERS

The variety in textures, surfaces, colors and earthy elements in the Chateau Lyon kitchen works to build the old world ambiance and also provides everything necessary for all kinds of cookery.

PREVIEW OFUPCOMING ISSUES

When one delves deeply into a subject or an object, and grows to know it intimately, its essence is revealed in ways unimagined. And it is the role of an artist to take that revealed essence and, coupled with his own vision, create works of art that encapsulate and communicate it in a way that others may experience it as well.

Erin Martin doesn’t play by the rules. Her design philosophy is “Go long, or go home!” Exhibiting gusto and wit, Erin is unafraid of “grabbing the bull by the horns” and throwing herself into the ring, so to speak. Her interiors are gutsy, edgy, and confident. Never ordinary, she utilizes unexpected and innovative materials with intention and ease. Her sense of detail and balance is so pleasantly unexpected, beautifully bringing together elements of style that often contrast in texture, color, or scale. Definitely a West Coast gal, Erin’s surely inherited THE design gene. With an architect father, an interior designer mother, and loads of culture surrounding her, she was destined to design. Clients love that Erin’s interiors are grounded in warmth and history, yet seem to have an adventurous soul. She loves to maintain a sense

summer WINES and the sippin’ is easy...

H

enry James once remarked that the two most beautiful words in the English language are

“Msummer

afternoon.”

With the beaux jours of summer upon us, you’ll want to be pouring wines that are, as the French say, gouleyants, easy to drink. During the warm season, wine temperature, more than any single factor apart from the wine itself, influences whether a wine is gouleyant or an oenological dog day. Reds if not appropriately chilled will explode as picnic-crippling alcohol grenades; whites kept in ice-buckets won’t bloom. Read the whole story. Coming Soon.

CENTRAL STAIRCASES As happens when a fine wine is expertly matched to an epicurean meal, there arises between a distinctive megayacht’s central staircase and the vessel’s overall interior design concept a life-affirming, poetic symbiosis. Top designers agree that a yacht’s central staircase is crucial to the unity and harmony between the interior’s detailing, functions, atmospheres and colors. Frank L. Pieterse of Art-Line Interiors in The Netherlands says: “Since our first project in 1984, we’ve started every design with a staircase concept. The staircase, quite simply, is the backbone of yacht interior design.” Read the rest of the story in an upcoming issue.
