THE 7 C’S OF LIFE In the rapidly changing world that we live in today, we need to learn more from our school/college life than ever before. In addition to the academic subjects that we are taught in school/college, there are other important skills that we learn from educational institution, with or without our conscious effort. These skills are as important as formal academic training. These non-academic skills play an extremely important role in shaping our personality and nourishing us with true wisdom. It also makes education interesting and interactive. Some of these skills are:

1.

Creativity

Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.’ - Mary Cook

Creativity is looking at everything with a fresh pair of eyes. It is what solves problems and converts them into opportunities. It is one skill that makes you unique in this increasingly uniform world. With a bit of experimentation

2.

Curiosity:

‘I keep six honest serving-men, they taught me all I knew; their names are What and Why and When and How and Where and Who.’ - Rudyard Kipling

To question everything you see is the foundation of true wisdom. Millions of people saw the apple fall, but it was Newton’s curiosity that leads to major breakthroughs in science. Always take help from ‘Kipling’s six honest serving men;’ you might discover something new!

3.

Change

You must be the change you wish to see in the world. - Mahatma Gandhi

Change is one of the most commonly used words in the world today. Yet we see people around us constantly struggling to adjust with the new realities of the 21st century. We can influence others but cannot change them. Curiosity leads to creativity and creativity will lead to change. No one can change us but ourselves. Success and happiness follows those who take change in their stride and move ahead rather than complaining

4.

Confidence

DONEC ARCU RISUS DIAM AMET CONGUE TORTOR CURSUS Believe in yourself, have faithSIT. in your abilities! Without a humble RISUS NISL, LUCTUS AUGUE but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be

successful or happy’ - Norman Peale

To accept change, we need to have self-confidence. Confidence is about understanding ourselves better and being aware of our spot in the world. All of us are blessed with unique gifts and talents. Our talent might be different from the others around us but that does not make us inferior to anyone else. However, confidence comes responsibility. There is a thin line that separates confidence from arrogance.

Compassion

5.

Compassion is the basis of morality. - Schopenhauer

Most problems in the world today are due to our lack of compassion. Compassion is about putting ourselves in other people’s shoes, looking at things from their point of view and trying to understand them. It is about accepting the fact that people are different and therefore have different opinions and choices in their lives. Not judging people based on our point of view is the key to compassion. Tolerance for other people’s belief systems is the key to a peaceful world.

6.

Choice

It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped. Tony Robbins

The beauty of being human is our ability to choose the life we want. Our past might have an influence on what our future will be, but does not stop us from achieving our dreams. Our future is an accumulation of all the choices we make today. We have to make decisions on a daily basis and to choose the right from the wrong is the biggest dilemma that most people have. The good news is that it is never too late!

7.

Character

‘People grow through experience if they meet life honestly and courageously. This is how character is built.’ - Eleanor Roosevelt

At the end of it all, it is about character. Character is about doing what is right at all times and it is what defines your personality.

CHARACTER

The 7 Cs are some of the skills that we need to consciously practice on a daily basis at home, school & college. These are some of the skills that will stay with you for life, something you can master and help people around you discover as well. Since these are non-academic skills, there is bound to be doubts in our mind on the right answer. But when in doubt, use the most famous C of it all: Conscience. Listen to your Conscience and act with Courage and Conviction!
