During this Holiday Season...

Are You Still Grateful? In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.1Th 5:18 a child and experience your slight inconvenience? I can be so ungrateful. I can start to think that I have what I have because I deserve it or it’s somehow owed to me. But it’s not. Everything I have is the result of the goodness of God. My relationships are not owed to me. My job is not owed to me. This very day is not owed to me. My next breath is not owed to me. It’s all a gift. All of it. What’s one thing you feel entitled to and are therefore missing the opportunity to be thankful for it?

by Pete Wilson A couple months ago I heard my friend, Pastor Steven Furtick, say something that cut me to the core. He said, “You can’t be grateful for something you feel entitled to.â€? Ouch! And it’s so true. I have no clue what you think you may be entitled to. Maybe your‌ * Car * House * Kids * Spouse * Job * Friends * Education * Church All I know is whatever you feel entitled to, you won’t be grateful for. This hit me hard earlier this week. I pulled into my garage where my kids had once again left their toys out. Frustrated, I got out of my truck and huffed and puffed over to the toys, picked them up and threw them into a pile so I could pull in. As I sat down in my truck to drive into the garage I felt God instantly convict me. It felt like a wrecking ball had just come through the window. The thought that crossed my mind was

The Beginning Does Not Determine The End And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21 else we should learn. Many of us have failed miserly in our lives and made mistakes we might think unforgivable but stop just for a moment. These names are recorded for all history to see and know that they too have a share in the coming of this Messiah. Perhaps there are those of us even today who may have taken a fall or two and it is time for us to start again. We cannot focus on what went wrong. We must focus on the cross. And so is revealed one of the greatest lies the enemy tells us, “You can’t, you wouldn’t, look at your past, things will never change....” It has changed. The birth of Jesus Christ is a fact to remind all of us, he took on our doubts, our guilt, our misgivings, our sins and we

Matthew 1 starts with a genealogy. It begins with the linage of Jesus Christ. Why is it important to know this? It must be shown that the Messiah has met the qualification that were laid out from the time of Abraham. It was predicted the Messiah would come first from Abraham’s family. (Gen 22:18). David was the last family from which it was predicated the Messiah would come. We are able to follow the lineage and see that both of these requirements were met. Jesus was a baby conceived of the Holy Spirit who came to take away the sins of the world. He was a gift and so to remember that wonderful time we give each other gifts, gifts of love. They vary

in monetary value but Christmas is not about the cost of the gift. It is the spirit of the gift. It is about the gift of God’s son, the most precious gift. Often overlooked in this great chapter is a reality that speaks to all our hearts. If we carefully examine the lineage of our Savior we discover that there are greats we all remember but some names are at best unexpected, Thamar, and Rachab, for instance. Why some may have wondered were some who may have blots on their own character or history included? Why include those who have at best have baggage. Should not the lineage be perfect in every respect? I suspect that hidden among the 14, 14 and 14 generations there is something

can truly live as children created in the image of God. Give gifts this Christmas, visit friends, celebrate the coming of the Lord but most of all remember, it’s personal. He came to rewrite your history. His beginning can determine our end. Prayer: Lord, we praise you for the greatest gift mankind has ever known. Thank you for rewriting our history. encouragement & inspiration Live a Life of Compassion

Empowerment Sessions by Celeste M. Payne

How do you look at others? Though we all need to know the truth about our actions, critical words that are not rooted in love can be destiny destroyers. Instead, we should look at others through the eyes of God’s love. This way, we see past their “present” and becoming and active part of their journey to a divine future planned by God. Here are a few tips. • Look at others the way God looks at you. • Engage mercy before judgement. • Forgive others that have offended you. • Pray that the “will of God” will manifest in their life. Remember no one is perfect. God forgives us in all of our weak and imperfect moments. Out of thanks for His mercy we should share what He gave us — forgiveness, love and compassion. Empowerment Tips: • Psalm 86:15 – The Lord is full of compassion! • I Samuel 16:7 – God looks on the heart of man! • Psalm 130:3-4 – He forgives and holds no grudges! • Matthew 18:21-22 – Forgiveness has no limits! • Ephesians 4:15 – We are all connected! • Galatians 5:22 – God’s Spirit produces love!

Family Meal Makeovers

To make family meals more nutritious, the USDA recommends filling half your plate with fruits and vegetables. Adding these nutrition powerhouses to your favorite dishes is easy. Try these tips from the Produce for Better Health Foundation: Create toaster waffle “burritos”— simply top toasted whole grain waffles with peanut butter and sliced bananas. Then roll them up to eat on the go. Fill your favorite wrap with shredded lettuce, chopped avocado and tomato for extra goodness. Serve Tomato Basil Open-Faced Sandwiches for a boost of vitamins A and C—sauté crushed garlic in olive oil; stir in minced fresh basil. Cool. Brush on crusty hearth-style bread and top with more fresh basil leaves and sliced tomatoes.

Sprinkle with salt and pepper, if desired. Put nutritious potatoes on your menu for a healthy snack or light dinner. Top baked potatoes with cottage cheese and chives or avocado, chopped tomato and low-fat cheddar cheese. Top cereal, yogurt or frozen yogurt with sliced bananas, pineapple or cantaloupe. Make over macaroni and cheese, spaghetti or pizza with added chopped, cooked broccoli, spinach, tomatoes and more. Boost the nutrition in chili by doubling the beans and veggies you already add. The possibilities to make your family meals more nutritious are endless. For more ideas and recipes, visit or Del Monte Fresh Produce at
