Is Praise Your Weapon of Choice?

South Scioto Academy – reaching every child You just can’t help but notice learning in action when you walk the halls of South Scioto Academy, where the school’s caring teachers provide every student with a program tailored to meet his or her unique needs. “We provide an individual education plan for every child – so every child’s needs are met, regardless of whether they are above, at or below grade-level,” explains Michelle Johnson, school leader. “We are having great success, the children are happy and learning, and the school is making fantastic gains in achievement.” The academy is managed by The Leona Group which was formed in 1996 by Dr. William Coats, a national leader in education reform. Foundational to The Leona Group is the belief that all children, regardless of ethnicity or economic status, can learn and achieve. For this reason, Leona Group schools are located almost exclusively in urban centers where there is the greatest need for educational choice and opportunity. Though Leona now

manages almost 70 schools in five states, each school program is distinctive, designed to meet the specific needs of its community it serves. Now entering its fourth year in operation, South Scioto Academy is located at 707 E. Jenkins Ave. The former Techneglas office complex is 16,000 square feet and houses 10 classrooms and a multipurpose room. The academy offers a curriculum dedicated to teaching students to be thinkers and questioners. Full-day kindergarten, character education, a dress code, innovative technology programs and before- and after-school activities are provided in a safe and secure school setting. For more information, contact Michelle Johnson, school leader, at 614.445.7684 or visit South Scioto Academy is chartered by the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio.

Welcome to South Scioto Academy, where we know that every child can achieve excellence - and we provide the tools and attention needed to get there. Grace and Peace! September is an exciting month, the ninth month of the year. I can remember the ninth month of my wife’s pregnancy and the discomfort she had, the labor pains, but eventually a new baby. He’s three now and is in preschool (Wow!) My church (United Ministries Church of Columbus, Ohio) Ivory D. Payne has been focusing on birthing new ideas, witty inventions, Publisher products and services. Last month we were blessed to attend “Wet-N-Wild”: The Great Outpouring Revival at the Ritz Carlton Hotel at Amelia Island, Florida. It was beautiful. There we were baptised in the Atlantic Ocean and participated in a special birthing service, where we prayed and gave birth to some new opportunities and ideas. What’s new at Praise? After doing some prelimenary research, we discovered that though our hometown in Columbus, Ohio has a 24hour Gospel FM station, and a few other areas have either an AM station or a limited Gospel programming on Sundays, a large portion of our readership area doesn’t. To compliment the Praise Reporter, we have begun development of What does this mean? It means that not only will you have access to the Praise Reporter in print form and continue to be able to download the electronic version but online radio programs like gospel news, talk radio programs, preaching, teaching and loads of gospel music 24 hours/7days a week. Some of the shows will feature the latest news about churches, church life and the community. In addition, we will have genre based music shows sharing the latest music as well as interviews with national artists. We are especially excited about being able to showcase local artists and new and emerging artists. We are creating a Holy Hip Hop Show, a Call in Prayer Show, a Book Showcase and a variety of other programs. Your church, business or organization can host a weekly show as an additional way to share information with thousands of listeners locally and internationally. We will have two studios - one in Columbus, Ohio and one in Cincinnati, Ohio. We will keep you posted on our progress and the launch date of the station. Before I close I wanted to thank co-Producers M. Vickie Williams and Steve Coaston, Leticia Cunningham (Cincinnati Area Director), Krystles, Pastor Mack Jackson at the JustPraise Show in Cincinnati, Ohio. Visit our website and you can watch it online. The show is taped live every first Wednesday at 7:30. We will be back on in November. Be sure to register for our email list to be kept informed of what’s going on. See you next month,

Ivory D. Payne

education & family South Scioto Academy – providing the right alternative By A. Christine Dunlap Marked as the ‘educational specialist,’ South Scioto Academy is making educational strides as the charter school that cares. With a sound track record of progression, measurable results, a qualified and caring staff and an enrollment of 200 plus students, this academy is building a program, addressing the educational needs of students by addressing the needs of families. “We are building a program, states School Leader Michelle Johnson. “We want people to know that if your child has a challenge we are the ‘educational specialist.’ As a mission based school we want parents to know that we are about meeting the needs of the family. They may come to learn, but they stay because of the experience. Desiring to provide parents with a viable alternative in education, South Scioto Academy, established in 2006, provides individualized education to students. “Each child has a plan that

caters to the need of the child, continues Johnson. “There are kids who don’t fit into the traditional mode of learning and consequently people give up on them. I’m a firm believer any child can learn, but who’s going to do the extra work to make an educational difference? At South Scioto we take each child’s education personally. Their success is our success! One vital component contributing to the success of students at South Scioto Academy is the use of direct instruction implemented within the reading program, Reading Mastery. The implementation of this program enables educators to correct the reading challenges of students by making sure every area as it relates to successful reading is covered. “This program is a little controversial, but we have seen nothing but success. While the programs are scripted, the purpose is not to demean the teacher. It is simply to make sure everything

is accomplished for the success of the child. In addition to the script, positive reinforcement of praise is also a vital component of ensuring the success of students. Combined with cutting edge technology programs and a committed and dedicated staff, students are empowered and understand where they are and where they are going. “A lot of our students have not had success at regular school. We get a lot of children who have run into barriers, but we believe all children can learn and we are going to help them succeed. Beginning with an assessment, students at South Scioto Academy are set up for success. Providing a safe and nurturing environment, this tuition free academy provides students, Kindergarten – 7th grade with the essential tools needed to become academically sound and empowered for their future. Providing all day Kindergarten, before and

after school programs, a dress code, a qualified and dedicated staff and diversified learning plan, South Scioto Academy is making learning possible for every child. Challenging students to raise the bar is just one aspect of what makes this academy unique. The challenge does not stop with the students, but extends to the staff as well. “We are a team of dedicated professionals working to raise the bar in public education. By continually challenging ourselves, we strive for continuous improvement toward a common goal: to assure every student achieves to his or her own unique potential. Realizing that the challenge cannot stop at the wall so the school, staff at South Scioto Academy embrace and foster the importance of partnerships, both with parents and community organizations. “We warmly encourage parent involvement and also work to establish lasting partnerships with community

Is Your Weapon of Choice? Black Pearls by Doris Stokes

Columbus Word of Life Ministries

Elder Edward H. and 1st Lady Barbara Lewis

encouragement & inspiration

If you attend church or were raised in a church environment, you probably at some point have heard the term that “praise is your weapon”…but what does that really mean? Well, if you were anything like me, hearing that as a child, it didn’t mean much at all. But as my late Grandmother use to tell me, “just live a little while longer”…you’ll begin to understand a LOT of the old “isms” our parents and grandparents alike use to say to us. As I’ve grown into adulthood and began to experience my own trials and tribulations, you better believe I’ve grown to know what using PRAISE as a weapon really means. In fact, if you’ve ever visited my home, right in the living room over my entertainment center is the word P R A I S E, spelled out in big gold letters. It’s my daily reminder, that no matter what happens, what I experience (good or bad), whether I have an answer to a problem or not, PRAISE is the ultimate weapon that I can utilize against the enemy because it confuses his whole purpose against you! satan can’t understand why we would praise a God that would allow him (the devil) to bring so much confusion, frustration, evil, etc. into our lives. I mean, that’s the whole reason satan knocks himself out to get us to react negatively to our individual situations. However, the Bible is NEVER logical in its direction for our lives, nor is God Himself predictable; we MUST live by faith in order to believe Him, please Him and KNOW Him. The Bible declares for us to praise the Lord at all times and let His praise con-

tinually be in our mouths! (Phillipians 4:6) That’s a command, not a suggestion! In other words we have to get to a place in God where we can give Him the praise that is due His Name irregardless of circumstance. Is that something that I think is a cake walk? Absolutely not… believe me, I’ve been there. But it’s the practicing of His promises and His presence that strengthens you to get to that place in Him where you desire to give Him exactly what He ultimately wants from us….OUR PRAISE unconditionally. I wrote a song on my new CD project called “Calypso Praise” that carries a deliberate Caribbean funky beat, but it’s the lyrics I want you to focus on. The song is a purposeful attempt to teach the listener the value of their praise and what they were created by God to do. Each of us were created to bring glory to the Lord in a diversity of ways. The lyric says: “with a STRIKE of your hand, you can CANCEL the plan of the devil; and with the movement of your feet, you can bruise the enemy on the head!” IT’S TRUE! Our released praise is a total rebuke to the enemy and the Continued on page 16

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches . . .” - Proverbs 22:1

Our most precious commodity, our children, will soon be heading back to school. It is important for them to remember exactly who they are {God’s child} and to whom they belong. Shakespeare asked Jessie Todd in Romeo and Juliet, “What’s in a name?” Our name reflects who we are. I was named after my maternal grandmother, Jessie Little. Unfortunately, I never knew her because she died before I was born. I only know she existed because of a tombstone with her name on it in a small Georgia cemetery. Growing up I wanted a contemporary name like my best friends Alice and Mary Anne. I wanted to be named Jessica, Jackie or Sue; anything other than my old-fashioned name. I planned to legally change it to Jessica once I became an adult, not to completely erase my grandmother from my life but so it would reflect the “modern” woman I considered myself to be. But a funny thing happened as I matured and had children. I learned that names are very important, mine means “gift,” and often defines who we are. I began to like my name because it held ties to my mother and grandmother. A given name, often called a Christian name, belongs to the person who “wears” it. Some names denote information about our roots; our family or “clan” names. Some identify the generation of the bearer, describe the order in which siblings are born or reflect the circumstances at the time of birth. We can often identify a person’s place of origin, and even religion, based on his or her name. I am a native Georgian and a friend once asked me if I have a middle name. “I know you have one,” she said, “because everybody from the south has one.” Indeed I do have a middle name I just rarely Continued on page 16

Genesis 4:25 - And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew. “Come on Eve, we’ve got to go!” as Adam pulls her by her arm towards the flung open gate. Eve digs her bare feet into the yielding soil, resisting his attempts to remove her from the only home she’s ever known. She pleads, “no wait, talk to him,” Eve screams, gripped by panic and fear as she sees beyond the open gate into the darkness and uncertainty that awaits them, “you can talk to him and tell him I’m sorry and that I didn’t mean it…tell God I didn’t mean it Adam!” Eve begs, as a barrage of tears flood down her cheeks relentlessly as if the storm in her mind has capsized her emotions. The heat from the warring Angel’s presence sends cold chills over her. His mountainous shadow shrouded her, sending wave-after-wave of terror through her newly-aware flesh. She finds no warmth from the meager fur on her back or comfort from her mate by her side. More than the pain of being displaced, more than the trauma of being misunderstood, the searing, gut wrenching question now assaults her over and over again. How did this happen? The question beats against her mind like a fist from an unrelenting and brutal attacker. She finds herself chanting quietly as they trek through a foreign land, “I made one mistake!” she wipes at her tears, clinging desperately to Adam’s hand and whispers, “I lost everything because of ONE mistake? My life, is totally shut down because of one single act of sin?” She becomes weak from the pressure of revelation; she falters before collapsing under the weight of her life choices

and cries out to God, to Adam, to everybody… “I didn’t know! I’m so sorry, I thought it was innocent, I thought it was harmless…I thought I could get away with it, since it was only…ONE TIME!” Who is Eve? Well, Eve is a mother of two, sitting in jail cell thinking, “Dang I got 30 years because of ONE mistake?” Eve is the young girl in the abortion clinic crying, “Just ONE time, I did it ONE time and I’m aborting my FIRST child.” Eve is the woman hiding in a battered women’s shelter declaring, “I should have left the FIRST time he hit me.” Eve is a bewildered and remorseful wife unable to understand how a ONE night stand could end her marriage in divorce. Eve is terrified teenager hiding in a bathroom stall of a High School worrying, “How am I going to tell my mama…I got pregnant after ONE time.” Eve is everywhere and has done everything and we have all been…Eve. However, allow me to introduce you to New Eve. New Eve requests a brief visitation with Eve. New Eve sits down like a court appointed attorney preparing to counsel Eve and begins by saying, “ok…what’s done is done; you can’t undo the past, so now you’ve got to go through this (Cain) stage of your life.” New Eve explains the hardcore truth about the period of exile that Eve WILL, not might or maybe…but WILL go through. New Eve keeps it real, and tells Eve that it’s because of her decisions that she may end up losing friends and family. That she will go through a period where no one will want to hear her explanation or understand her reasons for why she did what she did. New Eve sits across from Eve and looks her right in the eyes before explaining the “wandering” process to her. The process can come in the form

of an eviction and now you’ve got to find a place for you and your kids to sleep. Or, it can be you losing custody of your children and now you’ve got to apply for visitation. Or, you’ve got to explain to a judge how you only knew the man a month before moving him in your home and how you didn’t think he’d rape your child and now you might get locked up yourself. Yeah, those processes…the process of having to live with everyone knowing your gory story. New Eve, suddenly switches gears and becomes a midwife and encourages Eve with this revelation…”This “wandering” process will hurt for a while, but it won’t last forever…in the end you will be able to take a deep breath (Abel). The hurt, the condemnation, the bad credit score, medication for STD, scars, criminal record…it will seem like it’s going to hurt forever, but as long as God is giving you a next “Breath” you can turn your life around. New Eve holds Eve close in a sisterly-embrace and whispers, “Girl…just breathe! As long as your next breath ain’t your last one… then you can make it! If you are still breathing then God has given you another chance (Seth). So have you figured out who New Eve is? New Eve is the woman that receives this word found in Lamentations 3:22-23 “It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23They are NEW every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” New Eve is the woman who went before God one night saying, “I didn’t mean it, I shouldn’t have done it, I’m sorry, I know I can’t undo it, or stop it, but if you give me another chance…” and God wakes her up the next morning like a lover and a romantic suitor offering her a NEW mercy. He pours from His flask of loving-kindness a cup of Faithfulness and a brand NEW Beginning. So, as New Eve prepares to leave, Eve knows that she’s just been slipped the key to her destiny, a small shiny glimmer of “Hope”. Eve no longer has to feel that she can’t recover from her mistake whether it’s ONE or more, but instead she can anticipate a merciful next breath and look forward to a compassionate second chance.

More than 70,000 people in the U.S. suffer from sickle cell disease (SCD), with one in 12 African Americans carrying the trait for this genetic blood disorder. The condition causes red blood cells to become deformed, or sickle shaped. These deformed blood cells can clump together and block blood vessels, leading to severe pain and organ damage.

A Routine Treatment May Also Be Harmful Blood transfusions are an important part of treatment for many patients with SCD. But this blood contains iron that the body cannot remove on its own. If excess iron continues to build up in your organs, it may lead to serious conditions, including heart and liver disease, diabetes, infertility or growth problems. “Many patients are not aware of the risk of transfusional iron overload,” says Sickle Cell Disease Association of America Chief Medical Officer Lanetta B. Jordan, M.D., MPH, MSPH. “That’s why it’s very important for patients with sickle cell disease who are receiving blood transfusions to talk with their doctor about monitoring their iron levels.” What You Can Do Dr. Jordan urges people living with sickle cell disease to remember the following: • Know how many transfusions you have received. If you have had more than 10 blood transfusions, speak to your doctor about getting a serum ferritin screening, a simple

City of Cincinnati, GMWA members and Cincinnati Comprehensive Sickle Cell Program announce Community Day

The 42nd annual Gospel Music Workshop of America hit downtown Cincinnati, thousands of worshippers came together once again to celebrate Gospel Music and Celebrate they did, the Convention kicked off on Friday July 24th at the Duke Energy Convention Center, Bishop Couzens of Inspirational Baptist Church, Pastor Freddie T. Dear Church Lady, my church just raised $50,000 for the building fund, but this past Sunday it was hot as fire in the sanctuary. The deacons said the air worked, but the pastor wanted to save on the electric bill. What should I do? Signed “Hot as Fire”

Dear Hot as Fire, Well that sounds like the Pastor needs to feel the Fire, first get with the deaconess board and make sure someone forgets to place that ice water up in the pulpit, then you all bring water to sunday service and PRAISE him like never before, Church Lady wants ya’ll to Praise hi till sweat is dripping off your body , then after church all of you make sure you give your Pastor the biggest hugs of his life, and between the parchness of his throat and the smells from you all I guarantee the Air will be on the following week. Secret made for a Woman strong enough for a stingy Pastor.

Church Lady

Dear Church Lady, I go to a church and so does my ex wife she has started to bring her new Boyfriend to Church and it is making me uncomfortable should I leave my church, I went to this church first, shouldn’t she Leave???? Signed “Thought it was forever” Dear Thought It was Forever, Go find you a nice looking woman invite her to 11am service make sure your a little late walk down the middle aisle and sit front and center make sure during the sermon you place your arm over her shoulder, your ex wife will see this and as they say THE DEVIL HAS TO FLEE.... You do not let anyone run you from where God has placed you, your ex wife has moved on or she may just be bringing that boyfriend to make you jealous, but I suggest you get involved in a singles ministry, and if you need to talk to your Pastor.

Cook Up Some $avings Busy families looking to stretch their food dollars are discovering they can save time and money by starting or joining a cooking club. Three or four families team up, pool resources and spend part of one day cooking a week’s worth of meals together. It’s a fun way to put nutritious food on the table without spending a fortune.

Here’s how it works:

Each family chips in $100 per week. The group determines host kitchen and shopping captain The shopper visits a warehouse club, such as Sam’s Club, to locate all items for a week’s worth of meals. The group prepares a week’s worth of meals in one afternoon. To help families and the home chef start their own cooking club, here are some helpful tips and recipes. Alternate who does the shopping (it’s often easiest for the kitchen host to shop). Take note of the common ingredients in the recipes, add them up and have one person chop or slice it all at one time. Look for large quantity serving recipes to get best results. Simply multiplying ingredients may not yield the best results. It’s usually quickest for one cook to work on making one dish and then divide that into family portions.

Dishes are better defrosted over night in the refrigerator, then heated in the oven or microwave.

Grilled Pork Tenderloin with Spicy Rub Serve this with honey whipped yams and sautéed green beans. Makes 4 servings for about $1.50 per serving 1 1/2 teaspoons dried thyme 1/2 -1 teaspoon cayenne 1 1/2 teaspoons crushed fennel seed 1 tablespoon garlic, minced 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt 3/4 teaspoon coarse black pepper 1 1/4 pounds pork tenderloin In a small bowl, blend thyme, cayenne, fennel seeds, garlic, kosher salt and black pepper. Rub pork tenderloin liberally with olive oil. Then, rub the spice mixture all over pork, pressing it in. Seal tenderloin in food saver bag or other freezer wrap and freeze. To serve, defrost overnight in the refrigerator. Put room temperature roast on a medium high grill for 20 minutes, until the internal temperature is 145°F (or cook in preheated 400°F oven for 15 to 20 minutes until it reaches temperature). Slice and serve. Courtesy of Family Features

Confessions of Confidence

encouragement & inspiration

we are not confident, it is a sign that doubt, fear and distrust are in operation (concerning God’s Word). Though God is not pleased with arrogance, He expects His people to walk in confidence.

1. What is Confidence: Some believe that those who are confident are cocky or arrogant. There is a distinct difference between confidence and arrogance. Arrogance is “giving one’s self an undue degree of importance.” However, confidence, the Hebrew word bittachown means trust and hope. It is also “full trust; belief in the powers, trustworthiness, or reliability of a person or thing and sureness.” The opposite of confidence is apprehension, distrust, doubt, fear, uncertainty, and disbelief. So, when

2. Why God Likes His People Confident: When you are confident, fully trust in and sure in the word of the Lord, you please God. It is like burning an offering on the altar to God. It’s letting God know that you are willing to let go of and sacrifice who”you are” and walk in the confidence of who He says you are. The Hebrew word “bittachown“ which is synonymous with confidence also means the flank or the “internal muscles of your loins.” It is the very thing that was required as an offering. It represents an internal strength and an internal assurance. It also means strength, firmness, and boldness [by reason of] confidence. In the Old Testament, the priests

Confidence Scriptures * Psa 27:3 KJV – Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this [will] I [be] confident. * Pro 3:26 KJV – For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken. * Isa 30:15 KJV – For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength… would take the confidence or “the two kidneys, and the fat that [is] on them, which [is] by the flanks, and the caul above the liver, with the kidneys” and offer it unto the Lord. * Lev 3:16 And the priest shall burn them upon the altar: [it is] the food of the offering made by fire for a sweet savour: all the fat [is] the LORD’S. * Lev 4:10 As it was taken off from the bullock of the sacrifice of peace offerings: and the priest shall burn them upon

the altar of the burnt offering. In other words confidence: 1. Is the food offered to God 2. Smells good to God 3.Brings peace between man and God 3. Conclusion: God is not insulted by confidence. I believe God’s feelings are hurt when we doubt who we are internally, especially when His spirit dwells firmly inside of us. The next time you are tempted to let the enemy trick you out of walking in confidence, remember: * When you walk in confidence, you are blocking out doubt, fear, distrust and disbelief. (Psalm 27:3) * God likes the smell of confidence. Because your are internally and eternally confident in the God that that created you in His image and likeness you can walk boldy and victoriously. (NAPSI)-There may be at least one upside to a down economy: Many adult workers are furthering their education. A growing number of displaced workers are heading back to school for the first time in years as they look to branch into new careers or advance skills in such areas as business management, health care management and fashion merchandising. Many are looking to career colleges that offer industry-specific professional instruction with flexible, online classes. In fact, undergraduate enrollment at

career colleges in the U.S. has averaged an annual growth rate of 9.9 percent since 2003, according to the U.S. Department of Education, with enrollment at Westwood College, a career college with 17 campuses around the country, mirroring that trend. Dr. James M. Dorris, the college’s dean of the master’s in business administration and professional studies program, credits much of that growth to its business-focused, distance online learning programs. In salary terms alone, in 2007, the median annual earnings of working career college students 25 years and older with a bachelor’s degree was $50,856 and $63,856 for a master’s degree, versus $32,862 for their high school graduate counterparts, according to the Career College Association and the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Westwood’s new School of Professional Studies offers career-focused, online classes designed to accommodate working adults’ schedules and also targets to meet changing business and economic demands.

The college offers bachelor degree programs including fashion merchandising, business management, health care management, marketing management, and accounting and financial management. The School of Professional Studies also offers a master of business administration degree, with a choice of majors in e-business management, financial management and information technology. Other programs offered by Westwood include: The School of Technology--Degrees include gaming software development, and game art design. The School of Design--Degrees include animation, computer-aided design/architectural drafting, and Web design and multimedia. The School of Justice--This school provides career-focused criminal justice and paralegal degree programs. The School of Healthcare--Degrees include medical assisting. New FICO credit scoring rules Starting last month the three major credit bureaus, Experian, TransUnion and Equifax have had the new system available. Under the updated scoring system called FICO by Pat Ferguson 08, minor missed payments in collection of $100 or less will no longer do damage to your credit score. You are also less likely to be penalized for a single delinquency that was reported two or more years ago if your credit has been unblemished since. There will be somewhat more flexibility with missing a payment, however, if you have a pattern of

constantly missing payments you will be penalized for that. If your credit cards are close to it limit, that will be a credit score killer, even if you pay your accounts on time. You want to keep your credit card at 30% of the limit. FICO 08 is addressing a pratice that is used mostly by credit repair companies know as “piggybacking” this is when you pay to become an authorized user on a unkown person credit account to increase your credit score. With the new system this will not increase your credit score, however, if you are a legitimate authorized user it will be treated as it always has been. Not all lenders are using the new

scoring system for various reasons. This new credit scoring system will help some consumers, but as a consumer you have to be proactive about your credit to obtain a higher credit score. Some suggestions would be to monitor your credit, only take on new credit as needed, keep balances low and pay your bills on time. Having good credit is better than money in the bank, you can only buy what you bank account will allow, with good credit you can buy what ever you want that your income will allow. If you have your credit and budget in order and want to purchase a home, the first time homebuyers credit of $8,000 will be ending on November 30, 2009.

The secret is out about C.M. Grant Leadership Academy Word is getting out about the high-quality programming at C.M. Grant Leadership Academy, 2030 Leonard Ave., Columbus. Perhaps one of Columbus’ best kept secrets in elementary education, the K-6 community school is now turning heads. Enrollment has more than doubled for fall, 2009, though the school remains committed to maintaining its small school size and nurturing classrooms. Families are encouraged to apply for enrollment soon, as spaces are filling up fast. Leading the charge is Michelle Johnson, who also serves as school leader at South Scioto Academy. Essential to both schools are caring teachers who provide every student with a program tailored to meet his or her unique needs. “We’ve been helping children who are below grade level, or those with various challenges, become proficient, and those who are at or above grade level excel beyond. The biggest challenge has been letting families know we are here!” explains Johnson.

Both schools are managed by The Leona Group which was formed in 1996 by Dr. Though Leona now manages almost 70 schools in five states, each school program is distinctive, designed to meet the specific needs of its community it serves. For more information, contact Michelle Johnson, school leader, at 614.252.2087 or visit C.M. Grant Leadership Academy is sponsored by St. Aloysius.
