Strategic Advantage. In supply management, one component to explore is how an organization’s supply chain helps to achieve a strategic advantage in the marketplace. What steps/actions would an organization take to determine whether the supply management operation has the appropriate internal competencies to achieve competitive advantage? Respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings. Purchasing and Materials Management. To a great extent, purchasing and materials management is becoming a strategic business function. Explain why this is true. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings. Supplier Relationship Management (SMS) System. What is the value to the company and the supplier in developing and implementing a Supplier Relationship Management (SMS) System? How can such a system provide greater efficiency? Describe the role of “green” sourcing strategies in logistics design, and how an organization may be affected by this approach. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings. Global Strategy. There are a number of companies that utilize a global supply chain management strategy. Identify and research a company with a successful global supply chain management strategy and provide basic background information. Discuss the strategies this company utilizes to get their product(s) distributed internationally and how they address risks and meet business demands. Submit to your instructor your two to three page (not including title and reference pages). Your paper should be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the approved APA style guide, and should cite at least two scholarly sources in addition to the textbook. The Level Production Strategy. A level production strategy relies on a constant output rate and capacity while varying inventory and backlog levels to handle the fluctuating demand pattern.


Describe why or why not a pure service industry (e.g. accounting or law firms) may or may not be able to implement this type of technique. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings Production and Quality Tools. Review the various Lean production and Six Sigma quality tools outlined in Chapter 8. Select a tool or process that could be implemented in your current or past organization and describe how this tool could be used in improving supply chain management. Describe the strategic importance of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and discuss how CRM can be used to create customer satisfaction and greater profits for the firm. When making purchasing decisions, should a corporation reduce its ethical standards in order to allow the company to compete internationally? Take a position and defend your answer. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings. Obstacles to Supply Chain Integration. Some of the key issues in supply chain management are obstacles to process integration along the supply chain. Using Table 13.2 in Chapter 13, identify one obstacle that you have encountered in your experience, and how that obstacle could have been avoided. Using the balanced scorecard approach as detailed in Chapter 14 (Figure 14.1), identify 4 key metrics that you would propose for your organization’s supply management system and how you propose to measure those 4 key metrics in your supply chain. Be sure to respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings. Focus of the Final Paper This final research paper must demonstrate an understanding of new learning in logistics management and how the supply chain supports the organization’s business strategy. The paper must be eight- to- ten pages (not including the title and reference pages), integrating readings, multi-media and class assignments. It is mandatory to include research from the course text, as well as six- to- eight sources from the internet or online library to support your views. In your eight- to- ten page research paper (not including the title and reference pages), you will describe both the business strategy and supply chain strategy for your organization, for a business unit of your organization, or for some other organization for which you have worked in the past and still retain contacts. Your research paper will analyze how this organization aligns its business strategy with its supply chain strategy and recommend strategy or tactics to improve strategic alignment based on scholarly resources and what you have learned in this course.


You are required to use non-course materials to support your contentions and incorporate supporting documentation to support your analysis. Use APA style and submit your proposal to the instructor by the last day of class.
