Access to timely and appropriate mental health care, particularly for the most vulnerable is a human right. However, evidence shows that people bereaved by suicide are 65% more likely to attempt suicide than those bereaved by natural causes.
Over the last six months, people directly impacted by mental health and suicide have worked with PPR and the Mental Health Rights Campaign to investigate the system in place for post-bereavement care, assess where it is falling short, and identify key achievable changes that are required from the perspective of those who matter most – the families of the bereaved.
On the 20th September 2016 the SAFER (Support Automatically For Everyone Referred) Campaign was launched. The launch event at the MAC Belfast heard from those directly impacted by mental health who are shaping the change they want to see in mental health services, to ensure that others who are bereaved can benefit in the future.
