2015-2016 ANNUAL REPORT
A LETTER FROM PRESIDENT/CEO JON DUNN AND BOARD CHAIR JANE EGLY At Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties (PPOSBC), we started the past fiscal year with one of the most difficult challenges we have ever faced as an organization, but we stood together and ended on a positive and rewarding note. A series of illegal and fraudulent video attacks damaged the Planned Parenthood reputation on national and local levels. At PPOSBC, we saw a significant dip in patient volume, had difficulty recruiting personnel, and experienced an increase in the level and aggressiveness of picketing at our health centers. To ensure the safety of our staff and patients, we invested over $500,000 in additional security measures at our headquarters and health centers.
Despite these efforts to restrict access to health care, anti-abortion extremists did not succeed. We continued to provide our community with high-quality reproductive and primary care, honest sexual health information, and fearless advocacy. This has all been made possible through the dedication and commitment of our staff and loyal supporters. In the end, PPOSBC proved to be resilient and finished the year stronger than ever. • We, once again, served more patients and offered a broader range of services than at any other time in our history. • O ur primary care practice, Melody Women’s Health, more than doubled the number of patients enrolled and visits provided. • W e continue to be a trusted provider of health care. 98% of our patients say that they would refer us to a friend.
STRONGER THAN EVER
• We had the most successful Annual Luncheon in our history when over 900 supporters came to celebrate our 50th Anniversary and hear Gloria Steinem speak about the history of the reproductive rights movement. • We developed an award-winning program called Accessible Patient Education. The project gives patients easy access to digital information about the services they received through their mobile devices. • Our affiliate launched a pilot for a new mobile app called Planned Parenthood Direct, through which patients can order oral contraception, an STI test kit, or receive treatment for UTIs. In the first three months of operation, we more than doubled the projected number of patients served. We continue to operate this pilot and play a defining role in the development of online health services for Planned Parenthood nationwide.
and generous support of our donors. You stood by us when we were under attack and helped us to have the most successful year in our history. With your dedicated support, we are stronger than ever and are moving forward to realize our vision that every individual in Orange and San Bernardino Counties has the knowledge, freedom, and power to achieve optimal reproductive health. Sincerely,
Jon Dunn, President/CEO

EXCEPTIONAL CARE Medical visits continue to climb and with new service offerings on the horizon, the future for Planned Parenthood has never looked brighter. To ensure that our 106,000 patients have access to optimal reproductive health, we offer online, weekend, evening, and even same day appointment options. The percentage of our patients who choose a LARC, long-acting reversible contraception like an IUD or implant, remains significantly higher than the national average. This makes it less likely they will face an unintended pregnancy. Our patients continue to trust us for needed services like wellwoman checkups, emergency contraception, STD testing and treatment, and abortion care.
“No matter what I need or what problem I have, I leave with an immense amount of knowledge and a remedy or solution. Amazing place, amazing nurses, doctors and receptionists. Fantastic center. Highly recommend! - A sma, Westminster Health Center Yelp Review 4
