Dear Future Sponsor, We are extremely grateful for the community partnerships gained over years of outreach and advocacy. Hope Matters is a veteran-owned local 501c3 with a triple-focused mission to magnify hope in the difficult journeys of cancer, Alzheimer’s, and military deployment. Sponsorships and donations help fund the programs we provide at no cost to participants – as gifts from the heart should be. For example, our programs have included The Stocking Project for oncology patients, Neighborhood Memory Cafes for those with Alzheimer’s, and artistically focused workshops for military families.

Hope Matters Founder, Maryann Makekau, interacting with those we serve.

Our 1st Senior Prom held at The WaterVue raised enough funds for one year of memory café operations ($5, 289.67) in four locations. In 2018 we launched another one in Miramar Beach; five memory cafes are available for families coping with Alzheimer’s. The goal for our 2nd annual Senior Prom is for ticket sales and sponsorships to triple proceeds. That result will enable Hope Matters to continue memory cafes in Fort Walton Beach, Destin, Miramar Beach and Crestview, expand The Stocking Project to other patients hospitalized at Christmastime, and provide art-based workshops for children of military veterans receiving care in the Eglin Air Force Base community. At Hope Matters, we believe huge outcomes are possible even in the most difficult journeys. It takes an army of helps to navigate the obstacles encountered with cancer, Alzheimer’s and military deployment. Community partnerships are an integral part in accomplishing our mission -- together we can magnify the gift of hope.

HOPE MATTERS BACK-STORY From 2011 to where we are now ... Author, Founder of Hope Matters Advocacy, Volunteerism, and Creative Formation - The Stocking Project delivers hope to oncology patients hospitalized at Christmastime; in its 8th season alongside others nationwide; teammates of Martina McBride's charity group Team Music is Love will give more than 35,000 stockings to patients in 2018.

PERSONAL PROFILE Maryann Makekau is the founder and president of Hope Matters. It all began when her best friend was diagnosed with cancer. Maryann's desire to find a book to help her friend's 2nd grade students didn't prove easy. So, she wrote it herself. That led to an unexpected pathway for hope. Maryann has authored five more children's books (plus Spanish translations) , delivered keynote speeches, written for local and national magazines and non-profits, given radio and television interviews, designed workshops, visited schools and hospitals, and much more. Maryann has made it her mission to deliver hope and healing inside life's difficult journeys -- specifically, cancer, Alzheimer's and military deployment.

Maryann has a Psychology Degree from Syracuse University. She is an Air Force veteran, military spouse (retired), and mother of two (grown) military brats.
