Christopher P Wood You are positively one of the greats of the art world today in this country. I find your images absolutely MAGICAL. Alan Davie In 2007 we held a hugely successful ten year retrospective of Christopher P. Wood’s work. We are delighted to be representing him fully today and to be able to share with you this online catalogue of his recent and remarkable output. The works on paper which Wood has completed over the last few years include monoprints, monotypes and collage and have employed all sorts of media and techniques which, as Wood describes convey the spontaneity I enjoy when working directly in my studio sketchbooks, where ideas flow freely and new possibilities abound. Collage has granted me the opportunity to raid my plan chests and to breathe new life into old drawings, printer’s proofs, mono prints and paintings, creating images not possible through any other process and yet at the same time staying true to the ideas and ideals central to me - those of the human spirit and the primacy of the imagination.

In my etchings I draw directly without hesitation and rarely re-draw trying to capture the vitality of that particular moment as closely as I can and, as always, searching for an image no one has seen before. Born in Leeds in 1961, Wood gained a Master’s degree in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art in 1986 and has consistently had successful exhibitions in the UK and abroad. He has been invited to give talks at the National Gallery (2011) and is returning as an exhibiting artist at the Royal Academy this year. This autumn, Wood’s work will feature in a twelve month National Touring Exhibition of ‘paintings and works on paper’, taking place in Edinburgh, Leeds and Nottingham.
