Winter Planning for Future Adventures

Winter is a wonderful time to begin planning adventures for the spring, summer, and fall!

I use the winter months when activities might be a little bit less easily accessible, to get into planning mode for the upcoming warmer ones.

The first step is to get out maps and identify our plans.

For example, my husband and I are working on completing our hike of the Pacific Crest Trail on the Sierra section. We have now completed several hundred miles, and we have about 150 miles to go.

As we look at how to plan the remaining stretch of the trail, We work to identify access points where there are places to camp the night before. Then we will hike for 50 or 60 miles, and then get to a good point to be able to get off the trail easily and to a maintained road.

When we aren’t out snowshoeing or partaking in another snow adventure, we use the time we are cozy at home to get into the mindset of planning and preparing for an upcoming adventure.

If you aren’t sure where to start, I recommend looking at trips people you know have taken… reach out and ask questions. Begin looking at maps, and looking at the destination. You can look at excursions that might be available to you. You can look at hotels, amenities, and things like that depending on the way that you like to adventure. Everyone’s comfort level is different. Some people don’t mind sleeping on the ground, while others would never dream of it.

So it’s really about what you’re willing to and not willing to do. Then branch out into whatever you think is going to be fun for you. There is an adventure to be found every day.

As I write this, our area is enduring thunderstorms, so I’m enjoying the adventure of not knowing when lightning and thunder are going to strike. And not knowing if we’ll lose power.

Other ways I bring adventure to every day are through the organizations or entities that I am in. For example, the Powerful Women Today community has been a great way to connect and find adventure. There are opportunities to partner up and have friends to grow with you, whether in business or on a personal level.

Great friendships and connections have been forged and I think it’s really fun to have a conversation with someone and say, ‘hey, I’m planning a trip into your area and would love to see if we can coordinate, getting together while I’m there.’

There are so many possibilities… how will you adventure next?
