AMI PROJECT UPDATE:

EQUS' Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project is entering the final phases over the next weeks, with installations expected to be completed before the end of the year. Over the past several months EQUS contractors have been working throughout the EQUS Service Area. They've installed routers, collectors and passive antennas that will allow the meters to communicate over long distances. They've also installed nearly all the smart meters in EQUS' Central Service Area. The schedule for the remaining installations is as follows: Aug. - Sept. 2020: North (Onoway) Area Meters Installed Sept. - Oct. 2020: South (Medicine Hat and Claresholm) Area Meters Installed Please note: This schedule may change due to the current COVID-19 outbreak. All members will receive a phone call prior to their meter exchange notifying them of when it will be occuring. All AMI work will be conducted by EQUS approved contractors who will have identification with them and on their vehicles. Please watch this newsletter or visit equs.ca/AMI for ongoing project updates. An important reminder to all members who have had meters installed: If you currently read your meter and submit that reading monthly, you must continue to read your new smart meter for the time being. When reading your new smart meter please report the reading labelled 'DEL'. We look forward to notifying members that meter readings are no longer necessary once the network is completely installed and connected.

Back to School! The EQUS Community Connection has once again collected backpacks and school supplies to be donated to rural schools in the EQUS Service Area. The supplies pictured here are just a portion of the 56 backpacks that EQUS staff purchased and filled with supplies. The bags were delivered to A.B. Daley School in Nanton and Bow Island School. These annual donations rotate through EQUS' three Service Areas each year.

Operation

Round Up(dates)

Last year, the Manyberries Community Association successfully applied for Operation Round Up funding to purchase a seacan that would allow them to free up space in the Manyberries Community Hall by moving storage outside. This summer they were able to purchase and install the seacan with help from the community. The hall hosts many celebrations and gatherings, providing a valuable space for the community that is now roomier and safer for volunteers and guests.

The next application deadline is September 30. Programs that benefit youth and seniors in EQUS' Service Area could be eligible to receive up to $5,000. For more information visit: equs.ca/community/operation-round-up

COVID-19 Community Sponsorships

Earlier this year, EQUS announced a sponsorship program specific to community initiatives supporting COVID-19 recovery and resilience in the rural communities that EQUS serves. We've received some excellent applicants so far and were able to provide support to several communities. Funds were provided to a community celebration for high school graduates in Innisfail, to fill and deliver food hampers to those in the Didsbury area, provide school snacks in Chinook's Edge School Division, deliver hot meals to isolated seniors in the Bow Island area, purchase cleaning supplies to help reopen the Redcliff Senior's Centre, and more! EQUS is still accepting applications from those who are assisting seniors and vulnerable community members, schools, students and their families, local food banks and other organizations providing services to meet basic needs related to COVID-19 at a community level.
