Constructive Shamanism 2017

Laukupe, Lithuania

In summer 2017, I participated in a timber construction workshop led by Estonian architect Vilen Kunnapu and his son painter August Kunnapu. The workshop focused around erecting a timber tower that consisted of three levels with room for solitary contemplation, group gathering and observing the surrounding territory. Materials used were impregnated timber columns, joists, cladding, concrete foundation and steel connections. The idea behind this workshop was to combine logical and intuitive, professional and vernacular, conscious and subconscious creative principles to guide design and construction process.

Attracting the final element of primary structure

Lateral stability partly relies on the triangular shape of entire structure (load bearing beams and columns) that is further reinforced by cladding

Hanging pieces of rope with weights attached from all four corners to adjust and establish the correct column angle
