Preschool Newsletter 1st term

Volume 3 Issue 1 2011-2012

Dear Preschool Parents, Welcome to a brand new school year at Mentari Preschool grand Surya .! We are now on to our 3rd year serving this community and we are very happy that you have continually entrusted your preschool child’s first learning years with us. What’s new at the preschool? While most of the dedicated preschool staff are with us ( clap! Clap! Clap! ), we welcome new additions to our growing preschool family. Ms. Atika is our Nursery teacher and Ms. Erni is our teacher helper. We are getting ready to open our indoor playroom at the second floor this term . This room will provide your child lots of play space as well as audio –visual entertainment. They will learn to write, read and grow socially and emotionally. There will be important changes they will encounter as preschool is a much bigger world than home. We will do our best to help in this transition as we are your partners in your child’s education. We hope you will remain an active participant in our activities and projects. We are your partners in your child’s education. Teacher Melanie

Theme: All About Me As we start the new school year, we will further expand and continue on the theme “All About Me”. This is a theme which encompasses a lot of ideas and this term we will focus topics that have not been dealt extensively last school year.

Each person is unique and we would like your child to further explore the “ how he is different and how he is alike with his /her peers” . Getting attuned to one’s feelings is important to enable one to express oneself. An awareness of the world is built up thru the use of one’s 5 senses. We will help your child discover these concepts thru the circle time and our Fun Friday activities in drama, cooking, science and dance and movement. All that is important to understand and take care of oneself thru good nutrition, health practices and dental hygiene will be incorporated in this term. And last but not the least, lessons on manners and courtesy will be imparted. Manners and courtesy will be a daily exercise so that good habits will be formed. We would like your assistance as teachers as well as parents (grandparents, siblings, uncles and aunts and cousins and even susters) are good models for demonstrating good behavior. Research shows that the best time for children to absorb manners is in the preschool years. Courteous words or magic words such as please, thank you, you're welcome and excuse me are the first lessons to good manners. Sharing stories about your family and your childhood will also make the topic more meaningful. The children will know that although we may have different skin tone, facial features or even manner of speaking, we all the belong to one family...the human race. Parents always look to the future wondering what and how their child will turn out and I leave you with this quote to remember… We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today. ~Stacia Tauscher

Dr . Maria Montessori (1870 - 1952) created a system of learning known as the Montessori Method. She was one of several charismatic and ingenious pioneers of early childhood education who were active during the first half of the 20th century. Today, thousands of Montessori Schools flourish around the world; Dr. Montessori's method is perpetuated through the schools that bear her name and is accepted as best practice in a growing number of traditional school communities, as well.

Memo from Your Child ~Author Unknown~ 1. Don't spoil me. I know quite well that I ought not have all that I ask for, I'm only testing you. 2. Don't be afraid to be firm with me, I prefer it. It makes me feel more secure. 3. Don't let me form bad habits, I have to rely on you to detect them in the early stages. 4. Don't make me feel smaller than I am, It only makes me behave stupidly big. 5. Don't correct me in front of people if you can help it. 6. Don't make me feel that my mistakes are sins, it upsets my set of values. 7. Don't be upset when I say "I hate you", it's not you I hate, but your power to hinder. 8. Don't protect me from consequences, I need to learn the painful way sometimes. 9. Don't nag, if you do I will need to protect myself by appearing deaf. 10. Don't make rash promises, remember I feel badly let down when promises are broken. 11. Don't tax my honesty too much, I am easily frightened into telling lies. 12. Don't be inconsistent, that completely confuses me and makes me lose faith in you. 13. Don't tell me my fears are silly, they are terribly real to me and you can do much to reassure me if you try to understand. 14. Don't ever suggest that you are perfect or infallible. It gives me to great a shock when I discover that you are neither. 15. Don't forget that I can't thrive without lots of love and understanding, but I don't need to tell you that, do I?
