Osceola’s Lady Kowboys Set to Compete for State Title; Bulldogs Eye Critical Win for Playoff Hopes

Although winter sports teams have started practices and will open their regular season in a matter of days, several Osceola County public schools are seeing their fall teams still active and involved in state playoff action as we head into November.

Among the key upcoming events, Osceola’s volleyball team has advanced to the state Final Four, St. Cloud’s football team is looking for enough style points against Ridge Community to gain a playoff spot in the 7A playoffs; while both the Bulldogs boys’ and girls’ golf team have big regional tournaments today (Monday) as they attempt to qualify for the state championship.

Here is this week’s look around Osceola County in high school sports: VOLLEYBALL

Osceola high will play for a state championship this weekend.

The Lady Kowboys (24-4) earned their way into the elite Final Four of Class 7A with an impressive 25-22, 25-15, 25-23 straight set win over Vero Beach (19-5) in last Wednesday’s Region 2 Final (Read about that match here: https://www. positivelyosceola.com/lady-kowboys-advance-to-state-final-four-after-dominating-winover-vero-beach/ ). Reseeded #3 for the finals, Osceola will face number two Winter Park (26-1) in a 4 p.m. Friday semifinal at Polk State College in Winter Haven. With a victory, they would play the winner of #1 Plant (21-1) vs. #4 Boca Raton (15-6) for the 7A State Championship at 7 p.m. Saturday.

St. Cloud Bulldog Golf Teams To Compete in State Championship

When neither St. Cloud team finished in the top two in regionals this past Monday, advancement to the FHSAA State Golf Championships became a waiting game for both squads. That wait came to an end on Wednesday morning when both the Bulldog boys and girls golf teams were extended one of the eight at-large bids to participate in the FHSAA Class 3A Championship, slated for Nov. 1920 at Mission Inn Golf Resort.

It was a historic day for the Lady Bulldogs, as they became the first team (boys or girls) in county history to advance to the state championship for four consecutive years. Behind Karolyna Adams’ two-day total (7879-157) last year, the Bulldogs shot a 659 team score –finishing in fourth place overall. It was the highest overall state finish ever by a girls’ Osceola County team.

Still, in the closing seconds, the Bulldogs still had a chance to win the game but saw those chances evaporate when Daniel Elizando’s 37yard field goal attempt sailed wide left in St. Cloud’s 27-25 loss Ridge Community on Wednesday night.

Orlando Health: Strengthen Your Aging Bones with Smart Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle Choices

As you grow older, it is inevitable that your bones will become more fragile. It’s simply part of your body’s natural life cycle. But that doesn’t mean you are powerless to slow the process – or bolster the strength of your bones to avoid osteoporosis.

From the time you are born, your bone tissue is constantly breaking down and rebuilding, through bone remodeling. The process operates at different rates throughout your life.

You reach peak bone mass in your 20s and then hit a period of stability throughout your 30s. But then sometime in your 40s and 50s, your bones start breaking down faster than your body can rebuild them.

Law: Which vehicles are more likely to be involved in serious or fatal accidents?

Sadly, serious and fatal accidents take place on a daily basis in Central Florida. These crashes can happen in a number of ways and can be caused by not following traffic laws, inexperience, intoxication, distracted driving, fatigue, and medical issues.

Statistics show that fatal car accidents can often occur based on the type of vehicle. You may think that sports cars are most likely to be in crashes due to their speed and performance. However, according to the NHTSA, it’s the everyday cars, trucks, and SUVs on the roadways that are involved more frequently in serious or even deadly accidents, with sedans and pickup trucks accounting for more than three-quarters of fatal accidents. If you drive out on the roadways, here’s what you need to know about which vehicles have been involved in many of the crashes.
