The Osceola County Fair is gearing up to celebrate its milestone 81st anniversary, offering ten days of excitement, entertainment, and community spirit from February 14 to 23, 2025, at Osceola Heritage Park. Organized by the Kissimmee Valley Livestock Show (KVLS), a non-profit organization d
edicated to promoting agriculture and youth development, this year’s fair promises to be the biggest and best yet, with an expanded lineup of attractions, performances, and special events.

Decades ago, a touching story of love and inclusion began with Fran McLaughlin, a dedicated member of the Silver Spurs Riding Club. During a visit to the “Exceptional Rodeo” at the 1987 National Finals Rodeo, Fran was deeply inspired by what she witnessed. Motivated by her own child with special needs, she envisioned an event where all children in Osceola County, regardless of their abilities, could experience the excitement and joy of rodeo. From this vision, the Special Rodeo was born.
For over 30 years, the Special Rodeo has fostered a meaningful connection between Osceola County’s youth and the rich western traditions of the Silver Spurs Riding Club, offering children the opportunity to ride horses, rope a steer dummy, or sit atop the famous Big Blue Boot, all with the support of volunteers, rodeo queens, contestants, and club members.
The day concludes with cheers, trophies, and a celebration of the courage, spirit, and love these children bring to the event.
Today, the legacy of the Special Rodeo is carried forward by Silver Spurs Riding Club members Bridget Coggins and Sara Berlinski, and a huge team of passionate volunteers, like former Big Boss Gary Ketchum and others, who help the special kiddos get up on a horse before they make their way around the iconic Silver Spurs Rodeo dirt.

Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson addressed local business leaders, officials, and industry representatives at the Osceola Chamber Luncheon on Wednesday, held at the OC Building on NeoCity’s 500-acre tech hub campus.

On Saturday, the Central Florida Human Trafficking Task Force held its 5th Annual Red Sand Project Event at the Kissimmee Civic Center, drawing attention to the pressing issue of human trafficking in the community. The event saw a significant turnout, with attendees including Kissimmee Police, Osceola County Sheriff's Office, State Attorney Monique Worrell, Kissimmee Mayor Jackie Espinosa, Kissimmee Commissioner Jeanette Martinez, and numerous other community leaders.
The Red Sand Project, invites participants to fill sidewalk cracks with red sand, symbolizing those who "fall through the cracks" of society's systems. This powerful visual representation highlights the often-overlooked victims of human trafficking, a tragic reality in our community and across the nation. Speaking during the event were Central Florida Human Trafficking Task Fource Co-Chair Olivia Littleton, First Baptist of Kissimmee Senior Pastor Tim Wilder, Interim Kissimmee Police Chief Robert Anzueto, Circuit 9 State Attorney Monique Worrell, Major Fred Hinderman from the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, and Keynote Speaker Christina Santiago.
During the event, Kissimmee Mayor Jackie Espinosa emphasized the importance of community involvement in combating human trafficking: "We must stand together to protect the most vulnerable among us. This event is a powerful reminder that we all have a role to play in ending human trafficking."
Orlando Health’s Hospital Care at Home program, which delivers acute hospitallevel care directly to adult patients in the comfort of their own homes, has successfully treated over 2,000 patients across Central Florida since its launch in February 2023.
The program, available to Orlando Health patients who meet specific clinical criteria determined by emergency department and hospital staff, is now available through Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center, Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital, Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, Orlando Health Emergency Room –Osceola, Orlando Health Emergency Room – Randal Park, Orlando Health Emergency Room – Lake Mary, Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies, Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital and Orlando Health South Lake Hospital. In June, Hospital Care at Home celebrated its 1,000th patient admitted into the program.
“This latest milestone reflects the significant growth of our program within less than two years of operation,” said Linda Fitzpatrick, assistant vice president, Orlando Health Hospital Care at Home. “It is a testament to our patients’ trust in this advanced healthcare model and the dedication of our care providers.”
The City of Kissimmee officially launched the renovation project for the Chambers Park Community Center, marking the start of an ambitious effort to revitalize this vital community space. The project aims to enhance the park and community center for residents and visitors while honoring and preserving its rich cultural significance.
The ambitious renovation plan encompasses key upgrades both inside and out, including a new roof, a modernized lobby and restrooms, and a refreshed façade that aligns with the city’s updated design standards. These improvements will ensure the facility remains a vibrant, welcoming hub for the community for years to come.
Central to the project is a $500,000 grant from the African-American Cultural and Historical Grant, awarded by the Florida Department of State’s Division of Historical Resources. With no matching funds required from the city, this grant will provide critical support to ensure the community center continues to serve as a vital resource for the residents of Kissimmee.
"This is one of the first projects in a $150 million-plus capital campaign, where the City of Kissimmee will invest in infrastructure over the next few years," said Mike Steigerwald, City Manager of Kissimmee. "These projects will include upgrades to transportation, new parks, miles of bike trails, community centers, and expansions to public safety facilities like the police station and fire stations.
The Jazz at Lincoln Center has officially announced the top high school jazz bands in the nation chosen to compete in the 30th Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival, set to take place from May 7-11, 2025, in New York City. Among the elite finalists is the Osceola County School for the Arts Jazz Band A, led by director Jason Anderson.
This marks another significant achievement for the talented young musicians, who proudly represent not only their school and county but also the entire state of Florida. The Osceola County School for the Arts Jazz Band A is the only high school jazz band from Florida to earn a spot in this prestigious competition.
Last year, the Osceola County School for the Arts (OCSA) Jazz Band A delivered an incredible performance at the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival, placing second behind Newark Academy from New Jersey. Last Wednesday, Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital proudly unveiled the expansion of its emergency department, marking the facility’s first operational expansion since 2018. This expansion is designed to accommodate the continuous growth in patient volume, with the addition of nine new patient rooms, bringing the total to 29 rooms in the emergency department. The Osceola School District reached a major milestone last week with the groundbreaking ceremony for the new AAA High School. Located at 5800 Nova Road in St. Cloud, this 46-acre campus in eastern Osceola County is set to open in 2026 and will feature a three-story classroom facility designed to support sustainable education and meet the needs of the growing community. The new school is intended to relieve overcrowding at both Harmony and St. Cloud High Schools and is being constructed near the district’s new transportation facility.
The new campus will feature 11 permanent buildings, encompassing an impressive 345,640 square feet of space. Designed with energy efficiency at the forefront, the project aims for an Energy Utilization Index (EUI) of 25 or less and a ventilation efficiency of .20 cubic feet per minute per envelope square footage. Once completed, the school will accommodate 2,522 student stations, ensuring it meets the needs of the growing eastern Osceola County community.
“This groundbreaking is a significant moment for our district and community,” said Osceola School Board Chairwoman Heather Kahoun. “The AAA High School represents our commitment to providing top-quality education in state-of-the-art facilities that support both sustainability and growth."

Throughout the month of February, Osceola County Animal Services is offering free microchipping for pets every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This initiative, available exclusively to Osceola County residents, aims to improve pet safety and reunification in the event that pets go missing.
With no appointment necessary and free microchips offered while supplies last, this program makes it easier than ever for pet owners to ensure their furry companions can be quickly identified and returned home.
Microchipping is one of the most effective ways to keep pets safe. Unlike collars and tags, which can be lost or removed, a microchip provides a permanent form of identification that shelters and veterinarians can scan to contact pet owners.
“Microchipping is critical in keeping pets safe,” said an Osceola County Animal Services spokesperson. “It gives owners peace of mind and greatly increases the chances of reuniting with their pets if they become lost.”
Residents and families in Osceola County now have a greater opportunity to achieve homeownership through the updated SHIP Home Purchase Assistance Program. This initiative is designed to make owning a home more accessible by providing financial support and guidance to eligible participants.

Randy Booth steps into a role deeply ingrained in his family’s history, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, “Doc” Partin; father, Tom Booth; and brother, Ricky Booth—all former Big Bosses of the club.
“This is an incredible honor,” Booth shared. “To carry on this tradition and contribute to our community’s rich cowboy culture is truly special.”
Booth’s connection to the Silver Spurs Riding Club began in childhood, participating in the quadrille, a coordinated horseback performance that remains a hallmark of the club. Osceola Prosper offers two years of paid college or technical training for every high school graduate in the County with a more than $8 million committed by Commissioners. The City of Kissimmee is set to kick off its annual Black History Month Reception today, Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., at the Rain Garden of Kissimmee City Hall, located at 101 Church Street.
This vibrant community celebration will honor the rich cultural heritage and contributions of African Americans in Kissimmee and beyond. City officials, local artists, performers, and community members will gather for an evening of artistic expression, appreciation, and recognition.
Attendees can enjoy an art exhibit presented by Osceola Arts, live musical performances, and a selection of food and drinks. The event will also highlight the contributions of local artists and performers, who will be recognized with certificates of appreciation.
At 6:00 p.m., during the City Commission meeting, a special Black History Month proclamation will be presented, reinforcing the city's commitment to honoring and celebrating African American history and achievements.
This annual event serves as a reminder of the enduring impact of African American culture and history in Kissimmee.
Osceola County Commissioner Chairwoman Viviana Janer honored LaVell D. Monger with the prestigious Lieutenant Lloyd Burton Jr. Service Award on Monday, recognizing his outstanding leadership and community impact. The award was presented as part of the Board of County Commissioners’ Black History Month celebration, highlighting Monger’s dedication to making a difference in Osceola County.
Since moving to Central Florida in 2018, Monger, co-owner of RTW Photography, has combined business success with a deep commitment to public service. His leadership includes roles as Osceola County Planning Commissioner and board member for the Education Foundation and Osceola Chamber of Commerce.
"LaVell’s leadership is a testament to the power of community and service”, said Chairwoman Viviana Janer. “He brings passion, purpose, and a commitment to excellence in everything he does. His efforts inspire those around him to make a difference, and we are fortunate to have him in our community."
Monger serves as Vice Chair of United Way Emerging Leaders and has participated in leadership programs such as Leadership Osceola and Leadership Florida Connect. He was the 1st African American and youngest-ever St. Cloud Chamber Chairman.
Long one of the region’s top soccer programs, the Celebration Storm continued on that path Wednesday night, defeating Harmony 6-0 to win its fourth consecutive district championship.
Victor Mora got things rolling for the Storm midway through the first half, taking a long pass from the midfield, beating the final defender to the ball and deftly dribbling past a charging Harmony goalie for a 1-0 lead.
“We have so much faith in our defense, we will try those long passes knowing that if they get intercepted we will be in position to defend,” Mora said. “This team has a lot of trust in each other.”
A few minutes after Mora’s goal, Pedro Moreira made it 2-0 firing a left-footed shot into the net past Harmony goalie Ryan Schadeck.
Harmony would have a chance to get back into the game.
Play was stopped for five minutes when Storm goalie Andres Morales collided with Harmony’s Luis Benitez. After it resumed, Morales made a sensational stop of a Harmony free kick. The Longhorns blasted the rebound toward the net but a Storm defender cleared the ball away to keep it a two nil score.
For the third consecutive year, the Osceola boys and girls wrestling teams have claimed the Orange Belt Conference Championship, with the Lady Kowboys extending their dominance to a fourth straight title victory.
The boys won their third straight OBC title and their 11th in the last 14 years, with a razor-thin win over Harmony, 205.3 -203. Tohopekaliga (126) edged St. Cloud (124) for third place.
The championship came down to very end, where Deacon DeLong put Osceola in position to win with a pin of Harmony Seth Scutero in the 190-lb. weight class and senior Elijah VanSickle gave the Kowboys the decisive margin with a pin over St. Cloud’s Eann Mann at 215.
Still it was a pair of wins by Jonathan Olmo (pin of Tohopekaliga’s Juan Hilgado) at 157 and David Yi Sanchez’s thrilling 10-9 win over Tohopekaliga’s Juan Hildago in the 165-lb. final that really set the stage for Osceola’s come-from-behind win.
“I’m super proud of our whole team for the way we fought back tonight,” Osceola coach Rick Tribit said. “We were really shorthanded tonight, missing two starters including state champion Izzy (Isfandier Sharipov) and we did well where I felt we would."

Heading into Friday night’s OBC Girls Weightlifting Championships, St. Cloud coach Cory Aun had some concerns about his team’s ability to defend its title. All-State lifter Reese Butler was out with an injury and Aun knew rival Harmony had some strong contenders – especially in the lighter weight classes.
“The loss of Reese earlier in the season to a torn ulnar collateral in her elbow was devastating,” Aun said. “We knew we were going to concede as many as five or six weight classes to Harmony in each discipline. Still, we felt good about our depth and our upper weight class lifters have been quietly putting together a solid year.”
Aun’s concerns maybe were just a little unfounded as St. Cloud won both the traditional (clean and jerk/bench) and Olympic (snatch plus clean-and-jerk) team competition to tally 154 points and win their 15th consecutive Orange Belt Conference championship. Harmony (122) was runner-up and Tohopekaliga (74) was third. Osceola (26), Liberty (20), Poinciana (18), Celebration (17) and Gateway (4) rounded out the scoring.

The anticipated showdown between one loss Osceola and two-loss St. Cloud for the Orange Belt Conference basketball championship lived up to its hype on Friday night.
Jordan Isaac scored 22 points and Jordan Mundle came up with a huge blocked shot with 11 seconds to go, as Osceola (19-1) rallied for a 62-57 come-from-behind win over St. Cloud (18-3) at a packed Bob Baker Gymnasium on Friday night.
“Just a great basketball game between two really good teams in an absolutely electric atmosphere,” Osceola coach Steve Mason said. “Overall, both teams played well and played with a lot of heart, we were fortunate to make the plays we had to make at the end to win.”
The loss denied St. Cloud a second straight OBC championship, but Coach Tommy Billiteri said it was the type of game that his team and can learn and build from as the playoffs approach. “They (Osceola) have only one loss this season and are highly ranked and yet we went stayed with them,” the second-year coach said. “At the end of the day, they made one or two plays more than we did.
