Here is a look around the county in high school sports: VOLLEYBALL

In the biggest match of the week, Osceola (10-3) took down previously undefeated Deland in four sets on Tuesday night, winning (25-18, 25-21, 20-25, 25-19). Deland came into the match with a 9-0 record and ranked third in the state by MaxPreps.

Osceola Kowboys Seek Signature Win Over the Jones Fightin’ Tigers this Friday Night

In his first two years at Osceola, head coach

Eric Pinellas has seen his team win two district titles, make a run to a regional final and beat some pretty talented football teams along the way. One item that is missing on his head coaching resume is a signature regular season win against a Top 5 opponent.

Pinellas and his Kowboys (3-1) will get that chance on Thursday night, when they host Jones High School (3-0). Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Markus Paul Stadium. The number four ranked team in Class 4A, the Tigers have won three straight regional championships. There 3610 overall record during that time – against a highly competitive schedule – include wins over Osceola in both 2022 (18-7) and 2023 (28-20).

Poinciana Eagles Soar Under New Head Coach

Taron Mallard

Historically, Poinciana has had little success on the gridiron. In fact, the school has had just two non-long seasons since it opened 33 years ago. But things appear to be changing—and in a hurry. Under first-year head coach Taron Mallard, Poinciana football is rocketing on an upward trajectory as the Eagles are 3-0 for the first time in school history and more importantly few believe that success to be a fluke or related to Poinciana’s Independent Status, which would allow them build a winning record by scheduling weaker opponents.

Health St. Cloud Hospital Highlights Hispanic Heritage Through Flavor and Care, Led by
