MV High School Band Tag Day set for August 20 The MVHS Band, the Marching Wildcats, is having its annual Tag Day on Saturday, August 20. Students will be canvassing Mount Vernon neighborhoods, asking for community support. Money collected helps the band travel to competitions in the local area and as far away as Indianapolis and Tennessee. The tags help pay the royalties on the music they perform in their marching show, concerts, jazz band, and in spring concert festivals. All of the band’s concerts are free and open to the public.
In the fall, the marching band performs at home football games and they compete on weekends. In winter, the Drumline and Winter Guard compete at competitions as far away as Tennessee. In spring, they turn their attentions to concert band, preparing for spring concerts and the spring music festival. Through out the year, the jazz band enjoys performing at many community events.
