Educational Preschool AT MONTAVILLA COMMUNITY CENTER

ABOUT THE PROGRAM Led by our Early Childhood Education specialists, the educational preschool program at Montavilla Community Center provides academic, physical and social learning opportunities for children through exploration and play. Our program stresses the importance of your child developing independent thoughts, problem solving skills and simple direction following in a safe and healthy environment. Class format includes discovery time, arts and crafts, circle time, snack, physical activity, and story time.

Pre-registration began 2/21/17. To reserve your child's space in class, simply pay a one-time $35 registration fee. First monthly payments will come due starting August 1, 2017. Classes begin the week of September 11, 2017.

Pre-Preschool Playgroup - 2 yr olds

Child must be 2 years old by September 1, 2017. Children will begin to learn social skills, listening skills, how to cooperate and how to follow directions along with other preschool skills and concepts in an age appropriate setting. DROP-IN ACTIVITY DESCRIPTIONS TeenForce Basketball: Open gym time for youth ages 10-20 years old to shoot around, play pick-up games and release some energy while getting a little exercise.

Drop-In Art Studio: Explore your creative side with the support of a professional artist available to give advice, share his experience as an artist and encourage your talents.

Open Play Swim: Cool off in the outdoor pool during recreational open play swim time. All ages may participate, but only TeenForce pass holders attend FREE during these designated times.

Break Dancing: Dance with peers and compare your moves. Facilitator available to help guide newer b-boys/-girls on basic moves, while more advanced dancers practice skills and teach one another.

T-Shirt Tuesday: Print, screen, paint or dye your own shirt on T-shirt Tuesdays! Let your artistry show as you create wearable art. Bring your own shirt or use one of ours!

Flag Football: Hut! Hut! Hike! Hit the field for non-contact flag football games in the park. Learn plays and strategies of the game while focusing on teamwork and good sportsmanship.

YAC (Youth Advisory Council): Be heard! Share your thoughts on making your community stronger. Come together with your peers to make a difference and be a leader.

Sports Conditioning: Don’t let summer slow you down! Stay in shape for fall sports or even just to improve your health. Speed, agility, and strength support a healthy life no matter what activities you choose to participate in.

Qt’Q: Discussion group for LGBTQ youth and allies to share experiences through guided conversations in a supportive environment. Teen Lounge/The Kickback: Relax in a social space with video games, tablegames, art opportunities and more.

Toddler Gym: Open gym play time for youngsters 5 years and younger to play with balls, run with friends and even have a turn in our bounce house. (Indoor park riding toys not available in summer season.)

SUMMER CAMPS PORTLAND PARKS & RECREATION

REGISTER NOW

ONLINE at PortlandParks.org – Click on the “Register Now!” top tab. Search for classes by age, category, location or keyword – or narrow your search by specific activity or course number. PHONE – Phone in your registration to the community center during operating hours. Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express accepted with phone-in registration. IN PERSON – Any PP&R facility is able to process your registration, including the Customer Service Center located in the lobby of the Portland Building at 1120 SW Fifth Ave. All Community Centers are open for walk-in registration during business hours.

WITHDRAWAL & REFUNDS If you need to withdraw, a full refund will only be issued if notice is given by the Wednesday prior to the camp start date. Withdrawals made less than three days in advance will be assessed a $15 withdrawal fee. Withdrawals made during the week will be prorated.

SCHOLARSHIPS City of Portland residents, regardless of age, who require financial assistance may apply for partial scholarships. Contact individual centers for information.

PAYMENT PLANS

Summer camp costs can add up over the summer. You may pay the entire balance at the time of registration, or you can pay a $10 down payment for each week. The remaining balance is due on Monday the week prior to the start date of the camp.

BEFORE/AFTER CARE General day camps for preschool and youth age programs offer Before Care starting no later than 7:30am and After Care programs available until 6:00pm. Some locations require advanced registration and others offer daily drop-in rates. Contact the community center for details.

WHAT TO BRING Take a look over the suggested packing list to make sure Camp Check-in is a breeze. •Participation Form to hand to staff can be printed and filled out ahead of time: www.portlandoregon.gov/parks/summer camps. •Bring a list of names of people who may pick-up your child to share with staff when you sign-in your child •Valid ID is required to check-out a child at the end of the day. •Child should wear closed-toe athletic shoes and comfortable, weather appropriate, clothing •Sunscreen (applied at home and packed for later in the day) •Backpack, labeled with last name and phone number •Water bottle, labeled •Lunch, labeled •AM & PM Snacks (See camp info for specific food requirements)

Age 3-5 Play & explore all summer long! Themes embrace the zestful energy of children in art, games, music, stories & creative play. Make friends playing, painting, singing & sharing. Provides structured time to enhance physical, mental, emotional & social growth & development. Something for everyone! Campers must be potty trained. Please bring a snack for each session your child is registered (AM & PM). Students registered for both morning & afternoon sessions on the same day will be supervised for the 30 minutes in between sessions & should also bring a lunch. *No camp 7/4 Half Day: $15.50/day or $66/week • Full Day: $31/day or $132/wk Full day camps include both AM & PM on the same date(s) with a supervised lunch time from 12:00-12:30 included. MORNING: 9:00am-12:00pm Preschool Summer Literacy Camp Camp Adventures AM sessions will focus on fun children’s literature. We will start the morning with a new book each day & explore projects & activities that fit our story of the day.

Montavilla Community Center Day Camps are offered on a flexible registration basis, meaning youth are registered only for the days & times you choose! No need to pay for days you do not plan on attending. Simply select the dates you want, (or in the case of Camp Adventures or Daily Adventures, select camp sessions by the half-day) & register & pay for only those specific dates. Parks for New Portlanders (PNP) is a program initiated by PP&R in 201to provide recreation opportunities for immigrant and refugee communities. With one in five Portlanders being foreign-born, addressing the needs of this new and diverse population is crucial as they transition to Portland’s community. Portland’s urban forest consists of 218,000 street trees, 1.2 million park trees, and innumerable private property trees. Urban Forestry is involved in managing or regulating all of these trees to differing degrees. REGISTRATION Receipt of full payment is required for registration, unless otherwise arranged. Please call if you receive a returned check or declined bank card notice, either of which void registration. RESIDENT / NON-RESIDENT A resident is: • anyone who occupies a permanent residence inside the city limits of Portland. At the discretion of a Community Center Director, proof of home address may be required. Acceptable address verification may include a 1) drivers license, 2) Oregon ID card, 3) property tax statement, 4) utility bill or lease agreement with current home address. • any child living within the school boundaries of the Reynolds and Centennial School Districts who is attending a SUN Community School. Through a partnership between the City and County, a child attending a SUN Community School is eligible to register for programs at any SUN Community School location without paying a non-resident surcharge. Anyone else is considered a non-resident (NR) and will be assessed a 40% surcharge. NR surcharges do not apply to drop-in activities. Non-residents who wish to register for PP&R activities may choose one of these options: • Pay the additional 40% NR fee. • Purchase a NR fee discount pass as either an individual or family for a period of three, six or nine months from the date of purchase. The NR discount pass takes 25% off the NR fee for the activity. Inquire about this option at time of registration. These passes are not refundable. Non-resident Pass Prices 3-month Pass: Individual $25 Family $50 6-month Pass: Individual $45 Family $90 9-month Pass: Individual $65 Family $130 A family denotes a couple (married or domestic) or a single parent & their legal dependents living in the same residence. CLASS ENROLLMENT Our classes must meet minimum and maximum enrollment standards. Classes may fill quickly or be canceled due to low enrollment. WITHDRAWAL & REFUNDS Please notify us at least five (5) business days (Monday-Friday), unless otherwise specified, before the start of your program so that we can refund or credit your account for the registration fee. Pre-paid materials and admission tickets cannot be refunded. Participants needing to withdraw after the program has begun are offered a prorated credit or refund based upon when the request is made. SCHOLARSHIPS City of Portland residents, regardless of age, who require financial assistance may apply for partial scholarships. Contact individual centers for information. HOW TO REQUEST INCLUSION SERVICES • Choose the activity you would like to participate in, and register for that class. • Contact Inclusion Services at 503-823-4333. • If this is your first time requesting accommodations through Inclusion Services, you will need to complete either a phone intake or an Accommodation Form that can be sent over email. This process is to help determine what level of accommodation needed for the participant. • Future assistance will be provided based on need. The inclusion staff will work with the instructor on how to support you and your individual needs. IMPORTANT DETAILS ABOUT INCLUSION SERVICES • A general program may be adapted using auxiliary aids and services, but the basic structure of the program remains the same. • Accommodations are made as needed and can be flexible, as well creative. • Participants need to register for activities that are intended for their birth age. • Personal care is provided for activities for individuals up to age 12. • For sign language interpreter please call 2 working days prior to the class. • We request at least 5 working days’ notice prior to start of class. PHOTO POLICY Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) reserves the right, and may give permission to the media, to photograph classes, programs, and participants at any of our facilities and properties or any sponsored activity. Please be aware that these photos are for promotional purposes and may be used in future publications and media communications in any format. If you do not wish to be photographed, please inform staff and we will make reasonable efforts to honor your request. If you see staff taking pictures, and you do not wish to be photographed, please let us know. If you see a photo of yourself or a family member that causes you concern, please notify us. As a courtesy, we will make every reasonable effort to dispose of the image, and will not use it in future publications. However, we will not be able to retrieve, destroy or discontinue existing printed publications in which the photograph may have been included. CUSTOMER SATISFACTION Your satisfaction is our goal! INCLEMENT WEATHER If the City of Portland public school districts (Portland Public, Parkrose, David Douglas, Reynolds, and Centennial) are closed because of weather conditions, PP&R classes and youth basketball in those school districts may be canceled. We recommend that you check in with your community centers for the latest information about individual registered programs and activities. Some recreation programs may run as conditions and instructor availability allow. Decisions to operate on a specific site basis are made when it is determined that all programs may operate safely. Call the specific PP&R facility for information and opening/closing times.
