The Magical MiTzvah Worlds of The Pellegrinos Jewish Style Celebration Crowns the King and Queen of the Mitzvah World Sam and Melanie Pellegrino have been in the event business for over 30 years. 20 of those years, they have been together and married not only to each other, but also to their many businesses. Their schedules are full, 7 days a week, running 3 event locations and a traveling entertainment division as well as catering, video, photography and custom décor and productions. These two keep busy! And if that isn’t enough, this innovative couple also runs a non-proﬁt animal rescue called the Bichon Frise Rescue of Northern NJ, where Melanie is the Director. They rescue and re-home dogs in between all the other tasks that make up their 16 hour work days. If there was ever a couple deemed royalty in the Bar/Bat Mitzvah world, they would be King and Queen. Jewish Style Celebration caught up with this very impressive duo to see what inspires them. What makes you diﬀerent? I think we both agree that after being in this business for so many years, most everything we see out there is cookie cutter. We love to oﬀer unique venues that have all-inclusive services to make it convenient and aﬀordable for families to crate a memorable experience. Were you one of the ﬁrst to come up with the alternative event space? YES! Actually we started the trend 14 years ago. There were only your traditional venues; Temples, Hotels, Country Clubs and Banquet Halls. Our East Hanover Studio changed the entire industry. As a matter of fact, Powerhouse Studios East Hanover’s success is the reason we opened 3 locations and sparked our competitors to play catch-up trying to mimic what we have created. What makes you diﬀerent than any of your competitors? We love this question. It’s simple, ﬁrst there is no venue out their that is like ours. All three of our locations are one-of-akind. Second, we truly oﬀer all-inclusive packages under one roof. Our company is made up of many divisions; unique
venues, entertainment, catering, production, photography & video services and custom décor, so we can oﬀer packages that include all of the above saving the client time, aggravation and money. And ﬁnally, we whole-heartedly believe that we employ some of the most dedicated staﬀ in the business. They are the heart and soul of our organization. Since your 3 venues are so successful, do you still oﬀer your services at other venues? Yes we do. Every week we send out our DJs, photo favors, arcade, casinos, rentals, video and photography all over the tri-state area. It’s still a big part of our business model. With all of your responsibilities of running such a complex business, how do you two manage to maintain your sanity working and living together? Well, it’s not always so easy working and living together 24/7, but we were truly made for one another. We both have very dynamic personalities and a strong work ethic. We have a passion for our business, our family and especially our animals. They really keep us from going crazy. There is nothing like the love of a pet, or in our case pets, (we have 7 dogs & 2 cats), to reduce your stress level and realize how lucky you are. What’s the future hold for you two? Well, for now, to continue to entertain and provide great venues for people to enjoy while continuing to rescue and save dogs and place them in new, loving homes. Someday, when it is time for us to retire, we would like to buy a big piece of property and run our own rescue and animal sanctuary. I have followed the success of this amazing couple and their growing empire over the years. This same couple who also uses their time and good will to run a non-proﬁt rescue to save animals. A TASTE OF CHALLAH – From Delightful Cake Kreation As it approaches the two-year anniversary of the opening of Delightful Cake Kreations, Marsden Ricketts and Brian Dyce couldn’t be more proud of the growing popularity of their challah. When you walk into their Springﬁeld, New Jerseybased kosher-supervised bakery on a Thursday or Friday morning, you smell the fresh challah coming out of the ovens. Both Ricketts and Dyce have commented that, “we are especially grateful to our loyal customers who come in every week to buy our challah. It is because of them that we remain committed to developing new ﬂavors and have expanded into the wholesale oﬀering of our challah to several local stores.” They make challah is a wide variety of ﬂavors, including original, cinnamon raisin, onion garlic and whole-wheat, and in diﬀerent sizes, including small rolls, a full loaf, or even in a large, ﬁve-pound version as a special order for Oneg Shabbats. According to Ricketts, “we
oﬀer our challah at an extremely reasonable price because our objective to serve the community commands this”. Challah, however, is only one of many products oﬀered by Delightful Cake Kreation. This kosher-supervised bakery oﬀers cakes, cupcakes, pies and cookies for sale in their retail store at 247 Morris Avenue.
