Marriott Plans to Double Presence in Europe by 2015

As part of a global reorganization aimed at promoting growth worldwide, Marriott International plans to double its portfolio in Europe by 2015. Amy McPherson, president and managing director, Europe, made the announcement March 9 at the International Hotel Investment Forum in Berlin. The company celebrates 35 years in Europe this year with 174 hotels and plans to increase its portfolio by 40,000 rooms by 2015. Seven of Marriott’s 18 brands are currently represented in Europe: Bvlgari, Courtyard, JW Marriott, Marriott Hotels & Resorts, Marriott Executive Apartments, Renaissance Hotels and Ritz-Carlton. In addition, the first European Residence Inn will open in Munich in 2012. The development pipeline in Europe currently includes nearly 30 projects. Read more on Marriott News Center.
Grand Cayman Crisis Center Benefits From Marriott and Ritz-Carlton Teams The Marriott Grand Cayman Beach Resort and The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman were recently recognized with the Quarterly Award for Community Service for helping to restore their local crisis center. Thirty volunteers from both properties joined forces to paint the interior of the center, install new ceiling fans, and landscape the center’s grounds. The center serves as the only safe house for abused women and children in the Cayman Islands and is dependent primarily on private sponsorship. National Association for Female Executives Names Marriott a ‘Top 10’ Company The National Association for Female Executives (NAFE) recently recognized Marriott International as a top 10 company for its many programs that help associates advance their careers. One example is the Women’s Leadership Development Initiative, which just celebrated a 10-year anniversary milestone. In a brief video, Stephanie Linnartz, global officer, sales & revenue management, tells her personal story of career advancement and discusses the company’s commitment to associates, customers and owners. Courtyard Pune Hinjewadi Celebrates Hindu Festival of Colors Associates from the Courtyard by Marriott Pune Hinjewadi (India) celebrated Holi, the Hindu festival of colors, by spreading joy to children at a nearby orphanage in Dapodi, Pune. They visited the home and presented the children with eco-friendly Holi “colors” (colored powder) and pichkaaris (water guns). The children had great fun splashing and splattering the powder on one another. Knowing that no Holi celebration is complete without festive treats, chefs from the hotel prepared special sweets for the children. At the end of the day, the children gathered around the associates to express their happiness. One child said the day had been “the best Holi my friends and I have ever had.”
