DESIGN FOR SPECIAL NEEDS

Understanding various needs by special needs children having Dyslexia. Dyslexia a learing disability where a person faces trouble processing words and numbers.

FINAL PRODUCT CONCEPT Movie ‘Taare Zameen Par’ explains its well as to how the problem like this is difficult to understand by people. Every Child is Special is true for all these kids as well as they all have different but a special ability that makes them so special. Designing a sensory product for Dyslexic kids for easy learing. The product is a textured opaque object which helps you pick whatever letter you want to pick for you child and place it in the back of the texture. The product reduces the mess that kids create while playing with sand.

DISPLAY AND CONTROLS

Redesigning the display and control unit of Vacuum forming machine which is a seven step process in NID workshop, keeping in mind the color, ergonomics and feedback from the machines.

FINAL PRODUCT CONCEPT Understanding the users need and the requirement of the place the display and control is kept very simple and understandable with proper instructions near each unit. Making the entire display and control in a systematic way following the process of vaccum forming.

SIMPLE PRODUCT DESIGN

Its important to understand the needs of the people as designers. Looking to the needs of people in public places like in Railway Station I choose to study the seating for the people travelling or waiting for the train or bus to come. Carring something extra for seating people wouldn’t prefer, but a small portable seating they wouldn’t mind either as they don’t have to carry it seperately.

DESIGN CONCEPTS AND CONCERNS

FINAL PRODUCT CONCEPT Design a personal seating for people to sit anywhere. Its a strong, simple, flexible, soft, light weight low cost product(approx Rs.150), easy to carry, deformable and/or self-assembly object and washable product. A low seating, with a belt to attach it either to yourself or to your luggage with adjustable belt length.

REPRESENTATION TECHNIQUES

NATURE AND FORM

The Black Widow Spider eats up the male spider(who is half the size of female spider) after sex and when a pray comes to her web it forms a shell around it to save food for future, so i choose to do food packaging for this. As it has thin and long legs and as the hour glass red patch is the prominent feature of this spider I choose it to be my main form. To depict the thinness of its legs and the web I choose paper as the material for food packaging.

McDonalds SALSA WRAP + FRENCHFRIES (combo pack)

MODEST

Its an expression that best describes me. There are alot of things that i want to say but some thing is there that stops me. The form inspiration has been taken from the swan and the bending flower which are beautiful yet “MODEST” .

FINAL PRODUCT CONCEPT

FORM FROM 2D TO 3D

Form provides meaing to the object. Working with 2D forms and then 3D gave a very good oppurtunity to understand the form transition form paper to 3D modles. 3D modeling helped in understanding the behaviour of light and shadow, radii manupulation and visual balancing of the form.
