STEP 6: Continue playing with washes in your outlined forms. Consider adding script or text to your painting. What would you like it to say? Do you wish to look up a quote that relates to your painting? Do you want this to be an inspiration piece or a personal one just for you? These are the decisions we get to make as artists. Practice your script in your sketchbook first—and remember the script you write on the painting can first be done in pencil (which is less pressure), but it’s also an element of design in the work. I like to write with both cursive and capital letters. Try first writing with fine- and medium-point paint pens, and once that layer is dry, outline it with white. This really helps the script to stand out and also be artful.
