STEP 1: Start out with a light wash of inks, especially if working on Aquabord or watercolor paper. I like to work in just a few washes by applying a good amount of water to the Aquabord, then blotting up the ink with a paper towel in the areas where I will draw the face. This creates a nice wash for where the face will go. As an option, you can paint a thin wash with an out-of-the-ordinary color for a face (like lavender, green, etc.) for a unique and expressive portrait! Let your imagination be your guide.
