How has the pandemic affected you and what effects do you think it will continue to have in 2021? At Liasa La Industrial Algodonera we manufacture cords, elastic strings, ribbons, elastic ribbons and polypropylene thread for different and varied sectors. Due to the pandemic we switched part of our production to the manufacture of elastic strings and elastic ribbons for face masks, protective face shields and other products for the health industry. To this end, we adapted part of our machinery and several production lines, implemented production shifts every day of the week and invested in staff training and in R&D for the manufacture of new articles for face masks and healthcare products. In short, we activated a special production in order to provide a solution to the needs of the health industry due to the crisis generated by Covid-19. We also launched the Twist-twist elastic ear saver for face mask on the market, which is very comfortable and practical and avoids pressure and friction on the ears. It is washable at 60º and is compatible with all face masks, which we sell to the end consumer on our B2C website, www.cordonshop.com. What are the main innovations in ribbons, cords and accessories? We have innovated in terms of braided cord and colour combinations: we offer new designs of shades and colours, and we can customise them according to clients' needs. We have recently launched a new line of 100% paper braided cords with FSC® certification, guaranteeing ecology and quality. We have also presented a new finish for the packaging industry, for box ribbons that are used as handles. We offer a ribbon with a flat plastic T-shaped injection moulding that acts as a stopper. Our clients only have to choose the type and size of the ribbon, and we supply it ready to be applied on the box, with no kind of
glue needed. This improves product quality and speed of application. What materials do you use? We use different types of materials, and are increasingly expanding our range of ecological materials. We use recycled cotton, natural cotton, paper (FSC® certified), jute, hemp, polyester and polypropylene, among others. We are in permanent contact with technological centres and suppliers to find new, more ecological and natural materials that offer added value to our clients. In this respect we look for the ideal solution for its application, so that it gives the necessary characteristics to our product and is not only an accessory, but also provides added value to our clients' product. What other measures are you developing in favour of more sustainable packagingWhat measures are you implementing for the sake of more sustainable packaging and production? We manufacture with natural, recycled, recyclable and/or biodegradable materials, such as FSC® certified paper, recycled polyester, recycled and natural cotton, jute, hemp, etc. We can also apply ecological finishes to these
products, offering products that guarantee 100% recyclable, biodegradable and more sustainable packaging. We are also participating in projects financed by the European Union, promoting the re-use of raw materials and the recycling of waste in order to reduce the impact on the environment as much as possible. We are currently participating in a project called 'New plastic product made from textile industry waste', in which we reuse the waste from the manufacture of our polypropylene thread to make plastic caps. We are also involved in projects, in which we make investments to reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions. We are carrying out a series of actions to reduce our carbon footprint in a responsible and proactive way. Are you planning on presenting any new developments this year? Our main new feature this year will be the presentation of a line of cords and ribbons made of FSC® certified paper. We support the responsible management of the planet's forests and with this we want to contribute to avoiding climate change. With this new line, we will continue to guarantee added value to our clients and the possibility of 100% recyclable and sustainable packaging.
