1.4 The Orchards Kier & Watford Borough Council, Watford

140 Family Houses

40 Flats

250 Sq.M Nursery

The Orchards is a forward thinking residential project with an innovative approach to family housing, which challenges the traditional design standards. Housing typologies were carefully designed to achieve maximum privacy levels with a minimum separation distances between buildings. Multi-layered outdoor open spaces within the buildings were introduced in order to reduce the plot

1.5 Walton-on-Thames Zahawi & Zahawi Ltd, Surrey Located within the centre of Walton-onThames’ prominent High Street, this project realised the potential of the site by proposing four high-quality retail units at street level with 30 residential units above. The proposal implemented pioneering material and design technologies to minimise the impact of balconies placed along the High Street. The scheme acts as a modern transition for its

occupants, with the prominent High Street positioned along its principal facade and green amenity space located to the rear. The design responded directly to a number of strict site constraints, including Heritage, height and its location within an Air Quality Management Zone.

1.7 Anchor Springs BPIM Ropemaker, Littlehampton Located on an existing disused Waitrose site and car park in Littlehampton, this project of mixed use residential and retail spaces had to respond well to the vernacular architecture and local context. Littlehampton is going through a transitional period and this project aimed to enhance the town centre by designing a proposal that would engage the community and link the residential north of Littlehampton

to the more retail south. The constraints of the site required careful consideration of building height, overlooking distances and amenity space. A large central shared space sits in between the two buildings helping to create a sense of community and promote community engagement.

1.13 Lordswood Urban Extension Palm Developments Ltd, Chatham Lordswood Urban extension is located on a site surrounded by ancient woodland. This unique development embraces this rich rural setting containing 100 ecologically friendly residential units.
