ALBERNI VALLEY The kids will not want to miss a bike and wagon decorating contest on Saturday afternoon. All supplies will be provided, so bring your bike, wagon or stroller and participate in the parade around the track. On Saturday and Sunday, classic car enthusiasts are encouraged to show off their wheels. The car show will be a locals-only show, featuring cars, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, old soapbox cars, offroad vehicles and tractors. Organizer Dave Willis hopes to include virtually anything on wheels showcasing every decade. “Port Alberni has always been referred to as ‘Car Town,’ and I would like to prove that by showing what we have stashed away in the Valley, as well as what is owned by our ex-Albernians who will be coming ‘home’ to celebrate our anniversary,” Willis said. Vehicles will take up the parking lot of the Multiplex and Glenwood Centre will be the place to view displays of memorabilia and photos of Port Alberni’s automobile history. There is no entry fee and anyone interested in participating can contact Willis at 250-723-6162 or satchnsandra@shaw.ca. Monday will wrap up the festivities with a family picnic at McLean Mill. The train will be running to bring everyone to and from the old historic site.
The Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Beard and Bonnet contest, as well as providing promotional passports containing discounts to local businesses for the weekend. Watch for businesses around town participating in 93.3 The Peak’s window display contest. Judging will take place and winners announced over the long weekend.
