Since India is largely consumer driven economy, we may get a bad patch but not prolonged slowdown.

The recent 35 bps rate cut by RBI is higher than the expected 25 bps by economists.

This clearly shows RBI’s concern about the growth performance of India and the urgency of the Government to take measures to revive growth.

equate ‘Business’ with ‘Journey’ to untrodden destinations. Even for known destinations, we often come across hurdles. Take for example, going to pilgrimages (which I am fond of) does involve long & tiring journeys if you intend to experience the raw way that I do. People witness bad weather, heavy rains, storms, landslides and various kinds of disturbances. For days I was struck during a trip to Amarnath with no food & water amidst tons of uncertainty, while at the trip to Mansarovar, there was a point when many were thinking they won’t live to see their families again.

Medicines were over and people were giving up. Me and some fellow travellers, (who are today very good friends) were busy helping people. One of the guys had a guitar.

During the evenings, we sang and discussed topics totally different from what we were facing. After a decade I played guitar, a hobby and long lost passion which I had otherwise forgotten. One part of me was extremely anxious & deeply worried as resources were meagre, communication was nil, there were patients and gloomy faces all around, while the other part of my mind told me to continue. I am glad I chose ‘Work’.

I believe right action is more powerful than worrying. Work takes you ahead. Worry pushes you backward. Use worry like a pinch of salt. If you put too much of it, you will surely spoil the food.

Time isn’t the same always. During the above journey, we witnessed several sudden obstacles yet most of us came back with utter bliss and fulfilment. There were people who returned from mid-way. They are regretting even today.

The present business scenario might look like the trip I shared but there is a bright light on the other side. Since India is largely consumer driven economy, we may get a bad patch but not prolonged slowdown. The recent 35 bps rate cut by RBI is higher than the expected 25 bps by economists. This clearly shows RBI’s concern about the growth performance of India and the urgency of the Government to take measures to revive growth. Builders are appreciating this move.

Our sources say, about 15-20 players from this segment are actually using this period to strengthen and prepare for larger goals, while 2-3 strong players from other segments are entering this industry with higher ambition. You choose what you should do that will define your work’s future.

oplar timber prices are hovering at Rs 1000 a ton, severely impacting plywood, particle board and MDF manufacturing cost. But the plywood industries are most affected because core veneers are largely obtained from comparatively better girth logs or log stems that are above 16 inches. The price in over sized and good quality logs have risen sharply which is becoming unviable for plywood producers on current selling prices. Hence a chunk of plywood producers in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab have shifted to Eucalyptus Core Veneers but the increasing demand of Eucalyptus is pushing its prices forward. Evidently the growing demand of Eucalyptus would lead to further price rise in core veneer, hence a chunk of plywood producers have begun exploring the alternate options for their core veneer requirements.

Plywood producers have explored the cost of Eucalyptus Core Veneers from Vietnam at Kandla, which is now almost near to the cost of bringing core from UP area to this region. Timber industry traders from Vietnam confirms about the queries from plywood producers every day on which they feel that within a month or two or once market demand revives, veneer import will be just a matter of time. The current rates, payment terms and shipment durations are still not favoring the Indian plywood manufacturers but sooner it will start fitting the economics, said a trader operating in Vietnam.

Besides, plywood producers located in port regions are exploring opportunity to import Poplar logs from Belgium, Germany and other parts of Europe. According to traders of timber and supplies, the imported logs will be higher girth offering high quality and better yield hence sooner quality conscious buyer shall purchase logs from there once Indian poplar remain above 100 mark all the time. The next four years are going to be good time for imported veneer and logs in poplar and eucalyptus segment. It is noted that import of Eucalyptus Core Veneers from Vietnam and Poplar logs from Europe is not new for Indian companies. During 2011-13, when the timber prices shot to peak, many manufacturers were using imported core Veneers and logs and it was significant.

is set to repeat its success with larger space this year

The second edition of India Coverings Expo (ICE) is scheduled to be held in Mumbai at Hotel Orchid (the same venue where last year held) from November 07-10, 2019. After the resounding success last year the exhibition has become bigger and better by increasing the showcasing space this year. In this exhibition many segments have their dedicated space such as for HARDWARE segment two floors of the hotel have been dedicated. This exhibition has impacted a number of industry players who are offering innovative products. Till date those who have booked their space in this exhibition includes manufacturers and traders of Laminates, Veneers, Acrylics, highlighters, Mosaics, Wallpapers, Cladding, Floorings, Solid Surface, Hardware and many more.

Many participants are repeating their presence due to having overwhelming response last year, because most of them had received unexpected ROI from the exhibition due to being specific with innovative concept attracting only genuine visitors. They are witnessing even bigger opportunities with grater showcasing space supported with many advantages such as prime location, separate wing of hotel space for display, B2B nature of exhibition and expecting larger footfall coincidently being held with at least three exhibitions in Mumbai on same dates. The participants are very optimistic with 2nd edition of INDIA COVERING EXPO. Here is few participantsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; opinion about the exhibition:

Last year ICE was very good and perfect for mid segment players as in this exhibition only select or actual buyers come to visit. So there is no wastage of time with walk-in people like in other exhibitions. Being a small exhibition the visitors enjoy total attention with exhibitors in it

and the closed rooms display facilitates visitors to interact with exhibitors in an exclusive manner. The other advantage is being adjacent to airport so that the visitors can plan to visit comfortably. Their hospitability is excellent which is lacking at other exhibitions. The participation cost is less than other exhibitions which is an added benefit; secondly the exhibitors do need to construct any stall as the showcasing products can be displayed in hotel rooms. In this way ICE is beneficial in all way for mid segment players who are basically manufacturing and trading or only trading in wood panel decorative and building material industry.

ICE is good and well organised exhibition. The venue of the exhibition is at perfect place; secondly it is very open type hotel where everyone can with each other like an open ground exhibition. Being a hotel there is very less stall construction is required for display which saves a lot of money. Today market is not in good condition and the liquidity flow is not at satisfactory level so the manufacturers and traders are conscious in terms of investment in lot of new things. They are looking for rotation of capital invested on priority basis. Despite that the exhibition is expected to attract huge crowd as the curiosity level among the traders are much more to find out something new. We are coming up something innovative that will be revealed at the exhibition only.

We had participated last year which was a great success for us along with the success of the exhibition. ICE is a special type of exhibition in which only quality visitors come, who are either way associated to the industry. We are expecting a huge footfall this year as in the last year most of the exhibitors had admired the initiative to organise such exhibition in hotel. The exhibitors will also get benefit of concurrent exhibitions. Secondly, the market is a bit slow so people are curious to find something new in the market; on the other hand the industry players are also willing to offer something innovative to revive the market. This exhibition will prove the purpose of both as it offers complete ROI with minimum investment and traders like it very much as to have maximum benefit with minimum investment.

Last year we had booked the space in last moment and there were only four exhibitors in hardware segment. This year till July first week we are nearly 32 players have already booked the space in ICE. We took part in many exhibitions every year but ICE is totally different from them. This is exclusive and very much cost effective as being a room based display space there is no need to built stall which saves a lot. Secondly, the cost is also less from other exhibitions which are organised in open spaces. So, with less investment one can get better ROI. In bigger exhibitions the exhibitors do not give proper attention to all the quality visitors. But, in this closed rooms exhibition we have ample space, time and luxury to have conversation with all the visitors which can turn into quality leads. Last year, we got very good response in this exhibition. This year we are going there with total preparation and our showcase will be much better and innovative.

We had participated last year in ICE and the response was very good so we are participating this year also in a big way. This year we have booked double the space to the last year which was also one of the biggest stall among a few big displays in the exhibition last year. There are three exhibitions in Mumbai concurrently, so there would be much more crowd as the numbers of exhibitors have increased and every exhibitor call their dealers/distributors in the exhibition. Besides, the organisers are leaving no stone un-turned to make the exhibition a grand success. This is comparatively very much cost effective to showcase in ICE (India Covering Expo), so B2B segment traders are much interested in this exhibition.
