April 2009

H

ello all and welcome to the April news letter, well its nearly here, time for those of you that are seasonal riders to get your bike out give it a good check over and get ready for the 30th March, that is the first ride out of the year it will be a short one , that will end up back at the club. In this issue we will be looking at the clubs stand at the outdoor experience, and when Charley Borman visited them on the stand, I also have some information on the bike club France rally. Also a brand new dealership in the city bringing two new ranges of motorcycle to the city, and an old friend of the club brings a new brand into his store. On a more serious point I have noticed that following the harsh January there are allot more pot holes in the road, so be careful out there folks!

Hi guys and girls The committee decided to have a stand, at the Plymouth Pavillions Great Outdoors Event on the 21st & 22nd February, with the aim of getting the club noticed, in different circles. The stand and display was organised by Pete batten, and manned all weekend by Pete, Denis Callicott, Steve Allen, Roy and Pat Pike, myself and Sue. The stand itself was very professionally done, with loads of information about the club. We had a fair bit of interest about what we do and where we go. Mr Charley Boorman opened the event, and we finally managed to get a photo with him( this was supposed to be a group photo but as soon as the cameras started clicking all the others stepped back, so sorry everyone the photo has just got me in it with Charlie see below). Ritch Bounds Chairman PMCC

PMCC at the Outdoor Experiance Exhibition How did the club end up with a stand a the recent “Explore the Outdoors event earlier this year at quite short notice? Well after a call to the Pavilions about Charlie Boorman opening the event the club was offered a stand for the two day event at a very reasonable cost. So it was all systems go to sort out presentable exhibition stand to give a good visual impression to the general public Thanks to some helpful staff at the Pavilions we managed to secure a excellent stand location in the main arena near the speakers stage. Well we could not have a bike club stand

without a bike so it had to be a Rocket 3 to go with the black and silver theme. We managed to cram quite a lot in a 2.5m x 1.5m space including club products, a bike and two chairs for the duty roster PMCC staff. Pete Batten Social Secretary

Harley Davidson Comes to Plymouth Well its finally confirmed on the 11th April 2009 Harley Davidson is coming to Plymouth, Marsh the Lexus and Toyota people now have the franchise for this part of the south west, this is the first totally new dealership since Ocean BMW started their dedicated bikes section in 1999, and is fantastic news for biking in general, so what does a car dealer know about bikes, well I contacted Harley Davidson UK to find out ! Harley Davidson put me in touch with the manager Chris Iris, Chris has owned cruisers in the past but has just got rid of a K 5 GSXR, and has been riding bikes since he was a teenager, he invited me down for a look around, not much to see at the moment the workshop will be just behind the dealership and will have dedicated technicians, there will be a cafe and free tea and coffee. In the showroom there will be around 28 bikes including four Custom bikes and four Buell's, test rides are available, but unless otherwise stated, do have to be pre booked, they will also be stocking the Haley Davidson and Buell ranges of clothing and accessories. They are situated at Langage farm industrial estate they will be opening on Saturday 1th April and the grand opening will be on the 1st May, we will know more about that closer to the time, so pop down and say hello! Bike club France rally 26th, 27th, 28th June 2009 Since the sad demise of our old club favourite the Celtic rally a couple of years ago, we lost something quite big, a brilliant weekend away in France, for some the first opportunity at riding outside of the UK, and on the wrong side of the road. This year quite a few of us are travelling to a relatively new rally The Bike Club France`s rally in Normandy, Bike club France are an English speaking forum based club, a very friendly bunch, you can check out their web site at http://bikeclubfrance.com/index.php, its a good site and gives you all of the information you will need to get to the rally and help to find accommodation. The rally takes place in a village called Bellefontaine in lower Normandy its about 170 miles East of Roscoff that's about 3.5 hours, and about 90 miles south of Cherbourg, that about 1.5 hrs, so you can either travel via Poole-Cherbourg or Plymouth Roscoff, Brittany ferries operate on both of these routes, but you need to act quickly there are only so many bike places and they are getting busy already. So you know what the rally is, where it is, and how to get there, so why not make it a longer trip, In 2006, I took six bikes on a tour of the Normandy beaches, we had a fantastic time, did about 80 miles a day, great trip enjoyed by all, I've done this trip four times now, and you find something new each time you go! But you don't have to do death by museum, and spend all day, looking at old tanks and beaches, there are some fantastic biking roads, to suit all types, and some fantastic towns and villages to visit, so if you are interested in extending your trip and want some advice, get in touch with any committee member, and we will put you in touch with other members making the trip, or if you just want advice as to places to visit get in touch with me, if I cant answer your question, I will put you in touch with someone who can help you. Mark Hull Editor PMCC

Its all been very busy on club nights Its been very busy on club nights, so far this year Pete Batten has been very busy, organising people to visit on club nights, so far we have had Steve Ford, doing a short briefing on first aid and Rod Deacon brought four KTMs in for members to have a look at, so don't sit at home get down to the club on the next club night and see what is going on
