NewYork or Vancouver?

The most densely populated cities: Compare New York with Vancouver New York City comprises of 5 boroughs – Manhattan, Queens, The Bronx, Brooklyn, and Staten Island – and is the third-most populous, and the seventh-most densely populated of the 50 United States. Of the five boroughs, Manhattan is the most notable with hundreds of neighborhoods and 59 community districts. New York is a city packed with mass of humanity – 8.3 million people in 780km^2. It is a big melting pot of numerous different cultures and thus a very interesting town of its own. Although the majority of the population comes from Caucasian, AfricanAmerican, and Hispanic origins, many other ethnic groups that live in districts known as Chinatown and Little Italy. Since the city is densely populated, NYC requires convenient and accessible means of public transportation. There are about 5,600 buses, 468 subway stations and 6,282 subway cars, and about 13,270 licensed taxis. Driving your own car seems virtually impossible with astronomical parking costs and busy traffic. While driving, they sound their horns almost every five seconds. Joining the traffic by one of so called

yellow cabs or taking the subway seem to be a better option for most New Yorkers and travelers alike. Many parts of New York seem pretty familiar to us through movies and dramas such as ‘King Kong’, ‘All that Jazz’, ‘How I Met

According to Expatistan, a website that compares cost of living between cities, the cost of living in New York City is higher than in Vancouver in all six areas of comparison – Food, Housing, Clothes, Transportation, Personal Care, and Entertainment. 1kg of Tomato NY C$2.80 Van C$5.65 1 Pair of Shoes NY C$105 Van C$150 Public Transport NY C$95 Van C$125 Men’s Haircut NY C$24 Van C$39 Utilities for 1mth for 2 people NY C$83 Van C$158

On the 86th or 102nd floor of the Empire State Building you can see all of Manhattan’s skyscrapers and Central Park. There’s a small zoo in Central park, a swimming pool, and free performers. sights include the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum and the American Museum of Modern History. Everywhere you go, you will easily spot bookstores, shops, theatres, food, clothes, and people. In terms of fame, Vancouver is

for tourists to visit the city. With regard to tourism, Vancouver is just as crowded with tourists as New York but in proportion to its smaller size. The population of Vancouver is less than a million but the society is as multi-cultural just as in the New York. In comparison with New York, Vancouver is a centre of outdoor activities, whereas New

not as well known as New York. According to NRG Research’s 2012 report, about 46% and 19% of US citizens were very familiar with Vancouver and Whistler, respectively. Although it is not as big as New York with the area of 115km^2, Vancouver is the most densely populated Canadian city. The beauty of Vancouver and its surroundings is the main reason

York is a symbol for business life. There are not as many public transportation options as in New York. According to Statistics Canada (2012), public transit use was 19.7% in Metro Vancouver. 70.7% of commuters overwhelmingly chose to commute by private vehicle. Just 4.4% used bike to work in Vancouver, and a similar number car pooled to work.

Vancouver has many sights as New York, although most are based on the beauty of nature. Stanley Park contains well-kept gardens, an aquarium, and is comparable to New York’s Central Park. Vancouver is surrounded by wonderful nature – for example, the Lynn Canyon, Capilano Canyon and Grouse Mountain. There are also nice beaches around the city, namely, Spanish Banks, Kitsilano Beach, and English Bay. Because of the beauty of these locations, movies such as ‘The Chronicles of Riddick’, ‘Butterfly Effect’, ‘Fantastic Four’, and ‘X-men: The Last Stand’ were filmed in Vancouver. As a city that makes the best use of its natural beauty, Vancouver stands in stark contrast to New York with its bustling business activity. sources: Destination BC, Statistics Canada, The Surrey Leader, Expartisan, NYCgo By Daniel Lee
