The Pacific Coast Norwegian Singers Association enters Its 73rd year w ith a continuing pledge to strengthen our Norwegian Heritage through song . We have had a glorius trip to Norway in 1981 and the Norway Tri p Chorus made the entire forbund proud by performin g in su c h a professional manner. The reports from Norway have shown that our music touched the hearts of the people in Norway and that th e ex足 perience touched the hearts of each singer on the trip. Now it's t ime to show that feeling to the people of Tacoma and the futu re Sanger足 fest cities! Since it is now time for me to step down from the responsibility of being your president these past three years, I wish to than k the board members for their patience and understanding and thank all the membership for the honor you gave me in allowing me to serve you. Med Sangerhilsen, Gordon D. Rye, President Pacific Coast Norwegian Singers Association

It is an extreme pleasure and privilege to greet all singers, wives and guests to this , our 73rd Sangerfest in Tacoma, the City of Destiny. Singin g in Norway can be traced back to th e Sk alds who held an honored pl ace in t e royal courts from ancient times. The father of t he No rwe gian Male Chorus is Johan D. Behrens (1820-1890), who foun ded De n Norske St udenter Sangforening in 1845, and who edited no less th an forty volumes of male chorus songs. The above paragraph came from the President's Greeting by Gunnar J . M a lmin at the 1971 Sangerfest and was included because I feel it import ant to remember our roots on occasions such as this . As the President of the T acoma Normanna Male Chorus, a chorus fo unded in 1888, 14 years before the founding of the Pacific Coast Norwegian Singers Association, and as a relatively young man , I am extreme ly aware of the responsibility and privilege of helping prese rve t he Norweg ian and Scandinavian culture thro ugh music . I am honored to be among such a fine group of men with voices that make c ulture come alive through music. On be hal f of ou r chorus and ladles auxi liary, I welcome you all. Sverre G . Stuarset Sangerfest Chairman and Presi dent of Normann a M ale Chorus of T acoma
