All About Give the Gift of Reading Playford Library Service

Give the Gift is back for another year and this time round if you make a donation you could be in the draw to win a Coles Myer Gift Voucher valued at $100 – perfect timing for Christmas right?

So what is Give the Gift of Reading? It is an initiative created by the Playford Library in 2012 as part of the National Year of Reading. It is where the library encourages the Playford community to buy a new children’s book (for children aged 0 – 18 years) and donate it back to the library. We then hold a special Christmas Celebration at the end of the year where we present all the donated books to AnglicareSA who then give the books away to disadvantaged families in Playford as part of their annual Christmas hampers. Last year we managed to receive a whopping donation of 370

books!

This year we were so excited to expand our idea and so far have 24 other public library services on board in which they will take donations so they can donate it back into their own communities. We are also excited to announce that Australia Post has jumped on board with Give the Gift and will be distributing Wish Tags and holding a donation box at the Elizabeth Post Office!

So where to from here? Just simply pick up a Wish Tag from one of our library branches or Australia Post, buy a book, leave your details on the back of the Wish Tag and return the tag with your book to a drop off site!
