“I love sports and I want to teach all kids, regardless of skill level, that it is possible to improve at any level in any sport. If you have the passion and desire to do so, this can be done while having fun at the same time!” To show our gratitude to the unfaltering devotion of some of our best youth sports coaches, we have started the Coach of the Quarter! Our first coach to receive this award was standout coach Miles Willis. Miles has coached girls and boys basketball and flag football for CARD since fall of 2003 and has coaches recreation sports since 1985. When asked how he ensures all of his players gain a love of the game, Miles responded with “communication is a key tool that I use to create a positive experience for teams. I feel I get the most out of my players when they know exactly what is expected of them at practice and at games…Some kids start sports simply because their friends are playing. I love to take these kids and give them a taste of accomplishment. This, in turn, enhances their desire and confidence to play sports in the future.” Thank you Miles for your years of dedication and excellence in the CARD Youth Sports Department!

League Fee Payment Plan For teams who may have trouble coming up with the entire team registration fee up front, CARD offers payment plans to assist teams in getting their fees in. Please contact Noah Hajec at 895-4711 ext. 117 to get more information on how this payment program works.

Adult Sports Free Agent?

Don’t have a team? Go to www.teamsideline.com/chico and use the free agent sign up link. Give us some background information about yourself, the sport you are interested in, and a way to reach you, and we will circulate that information to the managers in our leagues to help you pick up with a team. Another great way to get on a team is to be at the fields connecting with adults in the community!

Adult Sports Manager MeetingMANDATORY for New Teams

All meetings start at 8:00pm sharp and will end by 8:30pm with all meetings held at the CARD Office. In order to be placed in a league, your team must have a representative at this meeting. Our goal is simply to ensure all teams are aware of the MOST important CARD information.

Prior history and records will be considered when it comes to league placement. Spring or Summer league champions MAY be moved up to a higher league for the subsequent season if also deemed appropriate and teams who struggle in a given league may also be moved down. The goal here is to facilitate proper league placement over the course of time, while teams may not consider themselves a “B” or “C” level team, they may be one of the top teams playing on that evening and it may be necessary that they play in that league. Trips & Tours Day Trips Sacramento or Feather River Wildlife EcoTour

Just a few miles from Chico, the Sacramento and Feather Rivers meander through the valley. These rivers support a variety of bird, mammal, fish, and plant life and surprising natural beauty. Join Dan Efseaff, a restoration ecologist and ACA instructor with Kayak In Northern California (www.KayakINC.org), to paddle, explore, and learn about the rich natural history of this ecological hotspot., as we explore the river by kayak and learn about the rich natural history of the area. We’ll stop to explore restoration sites and riparian forests, view wildlife, and learn about river ecology. No two trips are the same on the river and depending on the time of year, we’ll see eagles, salmon, and migrating birds. Although there’s plenty to see, some waves and small rapids will keep paddlers busy between gentle pools. The class includes kayak gear and a brief introduction on paddling, but the focus will be on exploring these local treasures. Class location depends on river conditions and participant preferences. The class may be moved to local lakes depending on weather and river conditions. Class will meet at the CARD office and then caravan to the class location. Previous paddling experience not required. Class limited to 8 participants.

Agreement, Waiver and Release I have carefully read the description of the class(es), program(s) and activity(ies) (collectively referred to as “Activity”) for which I am registering and in consideration for being permitted by the Chico Area Recreation and Park District to participate in the Activity and as described in the District Activity Guide, flyers, correspondence, newsletters, website and/or e-mail, I for myself, personal representative, assigns, heirs, and next of kin, hereby waive, release and discharge any and all claims for damages for personal injury, death or property damage which I may have, or which may hereafter accrue to me, as a result of participation in said Activity. I fully understand that the Activity involves unknown risks and dangers and I fully accept all such rights and responsibilities for losses, costs and damages I incur as a result of my participation in the Activity.
