Sports Camp Q & A Why Should You Choose CARD Sports Camps? If you have a child that loves sports and wants to try different sports throughout the summer, we have something for you. Your child will be in a fun, safe and sports savvy environment. We teach and fine tune (for the more advance players) basic fundamentals of the sport that will help your child succeed in that sport and most importantly walk away with a love for the game. We stress the importance of team work, sportsmanship and fun.

Where are the Sports Camp held? Camps are located within Community Park located on MLK Dr. off of 20th street. (unless noted otherwise) Depending on the sport, we are using either the gym or the fields for our day of fun. Camp meeting location will be listed on each specific sport camp online.

What happens in the full day options versus the half day options? Mornings are filled with sport specific fundamentals and game play from 8:00 am to noon. The half day option officially ends at 12:15 pm. If your child is staying for the full day, we focus on fun activities and games related to the sport, but also give a little down time. With our years of experience we have found that making the afternoon less sport specific creates a variety for the children so they do not become bored or disinterested in the sport. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon we take the B-Line to Shapiro Pool for a splashing good time!

What experience does the sports camp staff have? We hire friendly, positive, high energy and knowledgeable staff who love teaching and sharing their love of the game with all participants. All coaches have high school, college and/or club coaching/playing experience to ensure that we are at a high coaching level for each sport. All coaches are CPR/First Aid certified and have attended several CARD specific trainings to ensure that they are the best possible fit for your child and camp.

Are these camps advanced or recreational? Our camps are designed for all types of players and will adjust to the levels of each child participating. We will separate kids in drills and game play based on the skill level they are comfortable playing at to insure every child feels confident and excited about playing, whether they are just beginning or more advanced.

What are the age requirements for camp? This year we are registering kids by grade. The grades noted are the grade your child will be going starting in the fall 2012 school year.

Cathy’s Sew & Vac Sew Cool Kid’s Club “Sewing Through Summer”

Come and join our expert instructors and learn sewing skills during your summer break. You will need to bring a small “sewing kit” that includes some scissors for cutting fabric, some thread trimming scissors, a hem gauge and pin cushion & pins. We prefer the magnetic “Grabbit” type but any is fine as long as it keeps the pins off the floor! It is best to bring your own sewing machine in good working order so that you can become more familiar with it but if you do not have your own, you can rent one from Cathy’s Sew & Vac on the first day for $15 for the week’s classes. You are welcome to bring a snack-we have bottled water for you! Completion of proposed projects contingent upon student age, skill level and abilities. We want everyone to have fun and LEARN! Private Lessons (25 minute Lessons)

If you are looking for more one-on-one instruction, try private lessons. Parents will be able to select from one-on-one instruction or two-on-one instruction. Two-onone private lessons must feature kids of similar level/ability in order to qualify. *We cannot guarantee the same swim instructor each day; we will do our best to keep it consistent*.

Looking for a Pre Kindergarten program? CARD is partnering with the Chico Center for Learning (CCL) to offer a pre K program for children 4 to 5 years old that will be entering kindergarten next school year. With an emphasis on reading and math preparation, as well as music, movement, art and science, the CCL offers a quality program that will help prepare your child for kindergarten. Class size is limited to 10 children. This program operates September - May with monthly fees of $300. If you are interested in this program, please contact CCL directly at 343-2980.

FAQ’s: Q: How do I sign my child up? A: To find out if your child’s school has openings, or to get on the waiting list, contact the CARD office at 895-4711. Many schools have little or no waiting list. However, CARD recommends you put your child on the waiting list when they are 2 years old to help ensure you will have a spot when they enter school. Q: Do I have to put my child on the waiting list each year? A: No. Once you put your child on the waiting list, you stay on until you are offered a spot in the program. Please make sure to contact us to update your phone number and address if they change.

After School Programs Kids On Campus

Looking for a safe, fun and enriching place to send your children after school? If so, CARD’s Kids On Campus After School Program is the place for you! This is not your typical “hang out in the cafeteria program”. In addition to time for homework, arts, crafts, games, free play and a healthy snack, participants are exposed to a variety of enrichment opportunities. The program runs from the time school gets out until 6:00 pm and is located in each school’s multi-purpose room.

Q: Once my child is enrolled, do I have priority enrollment for the next school year? A: Yes! You will be notified of priority re-enrollment meetings in the spring of each year. You must attend one of these meetings and pay the fee for August at that time to secure your spot for the next school year. Q: Does my child have to attend every day? A: No. The program is for your benefit, and you may use it as you feel necessary. The fee for the program is a flat rate fee. CARD does not prorate for days not attended.

This program follows the school calendar. Please see the participating schools below. Participants are signed in and out every day. The ratio of staff to children is 1:12, and all staff are CPR and First Aid certified.

Coach of the Quarter: Dirk Lacy Jr and Marcus Hopkins

Dirk and Marcus has been graciously volunteering their time as co-coaches the past three seasons with our girls’ elementary basketball league. They are some of the most encouraging and enthusiastic volunteer coaches that CARD has had the pleasure of having on staff. Dirk and Marcus have a special ability to make sure each girl is having fun while learning the fundamentals of the game. Marcus and Lacy say that watching the players grow and succeed over the season is the reason they coach. These two are great with all of their players and try to teach how they can be a “family” and help each other throughout the season. Lacy and Marcus are a duo that helps bring a positive and high energy to the CARD environment that makes the games for fun to watch. Dirk and Marcus are highlights to watch each season, and continue to help each of their players grow not only as basketball players, but as people. Thank you Dirk and Marcus for helping bring a “love of the game” each and every game!

Adult Sports Competitive and Recreation options in most leagues to ensure better league quality: CARD is being proactive in attempting to make sure more teams are matched up with teams of similar abilities. In popular leagues, there are Recreation and Competitive options on each night of play.

League information, registration dates and rule packets: All league information will be posted on our website www.chicorec.com and www.Teamsideline. com/chico a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the registration deadline. CARD makes every effort to keep dates similar from year to year. However, minor changes are possible. Each league has a set number of spaces available for teams. Those numbers are determined by field or facility availability, night of play and level of ability.

All nights and locations listed are subject to change at the discretion of the sports department. Roster Requirements: All players must sign a CARD Roster or Add/ Drop form. Adult Sports Web Page WWW.TEAMSIDELINE.COM/CHICO is the best place to get league and tournament information for all Adult Sports programs. Give us some background information about yourself, the sport you are interested in, and a way to reach you, and we will circulate that information to the managers in our leagues to help you pick up with a team. Chico Senior Softball Club

Established in 1984, the Chico Senior Softball Club (CSSC) is an independent club that provides an opportunity for individuals 48 years and older to pursue their love of the game of softball. Through an arena of competition, sportsmanship and teamwork, the club promotes fun, fellowship and camaraderie. 56 Athletics

Teams may be subject to move from their league of choice at the discretion of the Recreation Supervisor if it is deemed for the benefit of the CARD softball program. Prior history and records will be considered when it comes to league placement. Spring or Summer league champions MAY be moved up to a higher league for the subsequent season if also deemed appropriate and teams who struggle in a given league may also be moved down. The goal here is to facilitate proper league placement over the course of time, while teams may not consider themselves a “B” or “C” level team, they may be one of the top teams playing on that evening and it may be necessary that they play in that league.
