The Chronotopography of Dance. Two Studies. Eda Čufer: Writing Movement. Katja Praznik: The Ideology of Dance Theatre. Prehodi series. Ljubljana: Emanat, 2010.

The studies in this book are the result of several years of research on contemporary dance combined into a dialogical exchange. Writing Movement by Eda Čufer was motivated by the author’s long experience in practical dramaturgy and her interest in the types of written records and strategies used in creating them, which in contemporary and modern performing arts practice could represent an alternative to the dramatic text. The Ideology of Dance Theatre by Katja Praznik was motivated by her interest in theoretical discourse, which led her to attempt to establish a concept that would enable the articulation of corporeality and its function in the art of dance. The two studies are connected through the context, since both attempt to establish a discourse on dance, which has been conspicuously marginalized in the Slovenian cultural sphere.

Valère Novarina: The Spoken Body. A Selection of Texts 1989-2009.

The selection of texts entitled The Spoken Body attempts to encompass all the main subjects addressed by Valère Novarina: theatre language, time and space, and the actor’s body. This book, translated by Peter Petkovšek, Vladimir Pogačnik and Primož Vitez – who is also the author and editor of the selection, is the first Slovene translation of the major theatre and philosophical texts by Novarina published over the past twenty years. It is a productive synthesis of genres, one which displaces what had already been firmly in place: reading is not only reading but also staging; a staging is not just a theatre event but also a complex philosophical reflection on contemporaneity.
