Dear Shai There are so many things I could say about how wonderful I think you are and I would mean every word, but you must hear so often those things. I’m a firm believer that the best way to honour a life is to live your own to the fullest, to be so inspired by the way they live their life that you live your own beautifully. I am grateful for the 25 years you have graced this earth, your presence has created an extraordinary ripple of kindness into this world. Shailene, On March 17th, 2016 I was in the audience at the Allittakes screening of Allegiant. I was in the first row and was sighing about 10 feet from you. You and Nadia talked about the film and some of the behind the scenes aspects of it. I was awestruck listening to you talk. I was right in front of one of my biggest heroes Shailene Woodley. When it came time to draw the raffle, I was unfortunately only one number off from getting to meet you! Dear Shailene, How do you sum up in words how you feel about one of the people you admire most in this world? It’s very hard, but I will try to express my feelings as best I can. Here goes. I know I haven’t met you yet, but you already kind of feel like a sister and friend to me. I have been a huge fan since the beginning of Divergent, but that is by far not the only reason I admire you. I see the words you write and I’ve seen speeches you have spoken online on YouTube and I can tell you are a very kind, dedicated, talented, compassionate, well-versed person and I love that about you. Especially this year I see all your activism and just seeing you evolve this year with all the work you have done and getting involved so whole-hearted has been an amazing development to see. You have inspired me to be in politics and get involved like I’ve never been before. When I tweeted that tweet that I said, “My life feels fuller being part of this movement.”, I meant it and it is not a lie. It is so true because I was still searching for my purpose and I felt for the first time like I had a voice and can use it to make things happen and you inspired that fire in me. Also, for a long time I struggled with self-love and you taught us to see the value in ourselves and without that self-love how can we grow. First of all, happy birthday Shai! You’re only turning 25, yet you’ve done more than anyone could imagine. You are such a ray of sunshine that everyone needs in this world. You taught me to accept myself for who I am and be myself! That’s why I love the You Do You campaign so much; because it teaches young people to be themselves and not care what others think of them! I can’t express how thankful I am to have discovered you ( and to have met you ) and for you to change my life completely by making it so much better!
