Best time to reach Coach Gamble: Head coach Terry Gamble can generally be reached on week day mornings. All interviews should be coordinated through the Sports Information Office. interview Policy: Media interviews of players and coaches are encouraged, and every effort will be made to accommodate media requests. In-person interviews are preferred, but telephone interviews can be arranged through the Sports Information Office. Under no circumstances will student-athletes’ phone numbers be supplied to the media. Practice: As a general rule, practices are usually open to the public. Practice is the best time to reach the coaches and players at once. Efforts will be made to accommodate interview needs before or after practice as long as it is prearranged through the Sports Information Office. Post-Match interviews: Players and coaches will usually be available for post-match interviews. However, locker rooms are off limits to media at all times. Cowgirls Under New Direction In 2010

McNeese State named Terry Gamble who coached three junior college National Championship team, its new head volleyball coach on May 7, 2010. Gamble is the school’s 10th coach who has spent his coaching career in the junior college ranks, most recently as the head coach at Midland Lutheran College. Gamble will be handed a team that posted a 17-10 overall record and a 5-8 Southland Conference record. The Cowgirls failed to make the postseason Southland Conference Tournament for the first time in the past 13 years. The absence at the tournament was only the second time McNeese missed the tournament in its 28 year history of the tournament. The Cowgirls also failed to make the tournament in 1995

on the team with a .251 attack percent. Bowden ended the season third on the team with 241 kills and a season match high 12 blocks against Sam Houston State. Huckabay led the team with a .275 hitting percent and was second on the team with 89 blocks. She also recorded 195 kills and 75 digs. NewCOMers: Kelley Borel (Fr.).

This position is where the Cowgirls lack experience after the graduation of four year starter Sarah Cartie. The Cowgirls return senior Ayshin Vasser and sophomore Becky Bekelja to this position but both players saw POSITION-by-POSITION limited time behind Cartie. Vasser who also saw playing time as an outside hitter OUTSIDe HITTer will probably be utilized the same way this season. McNeese returns three outside hitters and sophomore Vasser collected 85 kills, 25 assists and 42 blocks last Priscilla Massengale leads the way. Sophomores season. Bekelja saw limited playing time in her rookie season Brittany Williams and Taylor Bustamento return for but dished out 84 assists with 82 digs, six blocks, six their second season Massengale was named Louisiana’s “Freshman of service aces and nine kills. the Year” and was named to the Southland Conference NewCOMer: Danielle Kracl (Jr.-Transfer) honorable mention team. Massengale was second on the team and ranked seventh in the SLC with 334 kills for an average of 3.06 per set. She picked up 225 digs, 42 blocks, 22 service aces and dished out 24 assists. Williams and Bustamento saw limited action as freshman with Williams collecting two kills and was credited with one assists and two digs. Bustamento collected 18 kills, three assists and service aces and 19 digs. NewCOMers: Regina Trapp (Fr.), Amy Moyer (Fr.), Lanie Lissard (Fr.). mIDDle blOCKer The Cowgirls return two middle blockers in juniors Nicole Bowden and Erin Huckabay. Bowden led the Cowgirls with 112 blocks last season and ranked fourth in the SLC with 1.01 per set. She also tied for a team high 33 service aces and tied for second 2

RIGHT SIDE/OPPOSITE Ayshin Vasser and junior Katie Kennedy are listed at this position. Vasser played in 27 matches and started in 22 with 85 kills, 25 assists and 42 blocks. Kennedy played in 25 matches and started in eight with 31 kills, 33 assists, 11 service aces and 218 digs in her first season with the Cowgirls. NewCOMer: Regina Trapp (Fr.) lIberO/DeFeNSIVe SPeCIalIST Sophomore Whitney Ellisor returns as the Cowgirls’ starting Libero. Ellisor played in all 30 matches as a freshman and led the team and ranked sixth in the Southland Conference with 395 digs. She tied for a team high and ranked fourth in the SLC with 33 service aces. Her 34 assists ranked her third on the team. Junior Katrina Mica also returns as the backup to Ellisor. Mica played in 11 matches last season and recorded 42 digs as a reserve.

Sophomore Whitney ellisor THe SCHeDUle McNeese will take part in four tournament’s including its own tournament (Fairfield Inn and Suites) which will be held Sept. 11-12. Southland Conference member Northwestern State along with UL-Monroe, Prairie View and UNO will make up the tournament field. The Cowgirls will begin the season with two consecutive tournament’s beginning with the season opening tournament at the University of Texas (Aug. 2728). The Cowgirls will take part in the Troy University Tournament the following weekend (Sept. 4-5). The other tournament will take place at Lamar (Sept. 1718). The Cowgirls’ match against Lamar on Sept. 17 will count as a SLC match. McNeese will also host and travel to New Orleans in a non-conference match as well as a road match at UL-Lafayette. The Cowgirls will have home and home SLC matches against East Division opponents (Lamar Southeastern La,, Nicholls, NW State, Central Arkansas). The Cowgirls will host West Division opponents (UTA, Texas State, Texas A&M-CC) and will travel to UTSA, Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State. 3

TERRY GAMBLE First Season

Terry Gamble was named McNeese State’s 10th head volleyball coach on May. Gamble has spent most of his coaching career in the junior college ranks, most recently as the head coach at Midland Lutheran College. In 15 years of collegiate coaching, Gamble has compiled a 751-157 overall record and was elected to the NJCAA Volleyball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2007 and has won three National Championships. In 2006, Gamble was voted the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Coach of the Year and NJCAA Coach of the Year three times. His 2006 team won the Academic Team of the Year award that year. Prior to his stint at Midland Lutheran College, Gamble spent one season as first assistant at Texas Tech and prior to that was the head coach at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa, from 2005-2008. Gamble guided IWCC to the NJCAA National Championship in 2006, a fourth-place finish at the National Championships in 2008 and seventh place finish in 2007. He coached the AVCA Player of the Year in 2006. A native of Michigan, Gamble also coached at St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron, Mich. from 1999-2004. His 2000 and 2004 teams won the National Championships and his 2001 team finished third at the National Championships. Gamble made a stop at Mott Community College in Flint, Mich. where he coached from 1995-1998 and led Mott to a ninth place finish at the 1998 National Championships. Gamble’s coaching honors include the NJCAA Division II Coach of the Year twice; District C Coach of the Year three times; District D Coach of the Year three times; District 8 Coach of the Year; Regional Coach of the Year seven times and Conference Coach of the Year six times. He has won eight Regional Championships, six State Championships and twelve Conference Championships. Gamble has coached 14 All-Americans, 17 Academic All-Americans, three NJCAA National Players of the Year, 17 All-Tournament players, 19 Regional Players of the Year, 33 All-Region Tournament players, 12 Conference Players of the Year, 38 All-State/All-Region players, 41 All-Conference and 30 All-Conference honorable mention players. He has had a Top 20 National Ranking in 14 of his 15 collegiate coaching seasons. Gamble also spent time at the Club level where he tutored seven All-Americans, won seven State Championships and earned a Top 50 National Ranking every season. He coached more than 100 players that received collegiate scholarships and 80 plus players that won AAU/USAV Tournament Championships. Gamble, a graduate of the United States Sports Academy, helped his 1997 team the National Championship and was an All-American as a setter in the Western Michigan men’s club team. 4

Nicole Wilson is in her second season as an assistant coach with the Cowgirls after a four year playing career at the University of Missouri where she was a standout. The 2007 graduate led her team with 124 blocks and a .330 hitting percent her senior year. She was second on the team with 3.38 kills per game and 0.26 service aces per game that year. She is a two-time All-Big 12 honorable mention selection, two-time AVCA All-Central Region as a first team selection in 2005 and honorable mention in 2006. Wilson was named to the 2005 AVCA All-America honorable mention team as well as being named Big 12 Player of the Week and AVCA National Player of the Week once in 2005. Wilson is currently the Big 12 season hitting percent record holder, the Missouri all-time career hitting percent and blocks per game leader as well as the season hitting percent and block assists holder. In 2008, she served as assistant coach at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo. where she was responsible for day-to-day coaching and conditioning. Wilson earned her bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Fitness with a minor in Business from Missouri.

STATE OF LOUISIANA The state of Louisiana is conveniently organized into five distinct regions (Greater New Orleans, Cajun Country, Plantation Country, Crossroads, Sportsman's Paradise), each offering a different experience. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s part of the cultural geography that makes this a great place to live. Louisiana is one of the nation's largest producers of cotton, sugarcane, rice, sweet potatoes and pecans. The state is also a major producer of soybeans and corn. The biggest land-based industry in the state is forestry, with an economic impact from paper-making and wood products greater than all other crops combined. Poultry is the largest livestock industry, followed by dairy and beef cattle. Louisiana is also the nation's largest producer of alligator hides and crawfish. the state capitol building, located Louisiana's approximately 3,650 manufacturing units employ some 190,000 in Baton rouge, is the tallest capitol building in the nation at wage and salary workers whose annual earnings are $1.9 billion. The state annually 34 stories. produces nearly five billion dollars worth of products, including petroleum, chemicals, plastics, clothing, wood products, industrial alcohol, wallboard, cement, seafood, glass, drugs and many more. Louisiana has a semi-tropical climate. Variations in daily temperature are determined by distances from the Gulf of Mexico and, to a lesser degree, by differences in elevation. The average annual temperature for the state as a whole is 67.4. LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA

The first people to settle the lake were Mr. and Mrs. LeBleu of Bordeaux, France. They arrived in 1781 and secured their home six miles east of the present site of Lake Charles, living in peaceful coexistence with several tribes of Indians. This area originally settled by the LeBleu's is now known as LeBleu Settlement. Other pioneers quickly ventured to Lake Charles. Among them was Charles Sallier who married LeBleu's daughter, Catherine. The Sallier's built their home on the lake, in the area now known as Lake Charles. After Charles Sallier built his home in this area, the lake became known as Charlie's Lake. By 1860 this area was being called "Charleston" or "Charles Town." Settlers at the turn of the century acquired property from the Indians or they homesteaded the Rio Hondo lands. The Rio Hondo which ﬂowed through Lake Charles was later called Quelqueshue, an Indian term meaning "Crying Eagle" and still later Calcasieu. Little is known of these early residents except that they were a mixture of English, French, Spanish and Dutch. On March 7, 1861, Lake Charles was incorporated as the town of Charleston, Louisiana. The growth of the city was fairly slow until Captain Daniel Goos came in 1855. He established a lumber mill and schooner dock, now Goosport, and promoted a profitable trade with Texas and Mexican ports by sending his schooner down-river into the Gulf of Mexico. Most of the wood which built the city came from Goos' mill. Until the arrival of Goos, Jacob Ryan dominated the lumber industry. Ryan convinced the state government to move the parish seat to Lake Charles. Later that year, Ryan and Samuel Kirby transferred the parish courthouse and jail to Lake Charles, at that time called Charleston. Six years after the city was incorporated, dissatisfaction over the name Charleston arose. On March 16, 1867, Charleston, Louisiana, was incorporated into the town of Lake Charles.

It is no mystery why Lake Charles and Southwest Louisiana are referred to as the "Festival Capital of louisiana." With more than 75 fairs, festivals and special events each year, our area has celebrations down to an art form - complete with food, music, lights and laughter. Contraband Days is one of Louisiana’s largest festivals and the City of Lake Charles' oldest festival. Contraband Days is a 12day festival/carnival extravaganza filled with savory cajun food, family fun and festivities, and is attended by over 200,000 people annually. Each year during the first two weeks in May the city officially celebrates the legend of the pirate Jean Lafitte with its Contraband Days celebration. History tells us that Lafitte and his band of pirates once sailed the area's waterways and are said to have buried Lafitte's Contraband treasure somewhere in the vicinity of the lake. The festivities kick off every year with a pirate ship bombardment to "take control of the city" at the seawall of the Lake Charles Civic Center. A gang of rowdy and unruly buccaneers led by Jean Lafitte himself overruns the blazing cannons of the local militia, raises their "Jolly roger" ﬂag, captures the Mayor and forces him - with swords drawn - to walk the plank into the swirling waters of the lake.

In 1938, Louisiana founded McNeese State University, then known as the Lake Charles Junior College, as a division of Louisiana State University. The opening session of the college began on September 11, 1939. The following fall, the school changed its name to John McNeese Junior College to honor John McNeese, a renowned South-west Louisiana educator and the first superintendent of schools in Imperial Calcasieu Parish. In 1950 McNeese became a four-year college in its own right and came under the authority of the Louisiana Board of Education. Finally, in 1970, McNeese State University became the official name of the school. The University provides opportunities for continuing education in support of its mission to value lifelong learning. As a member of the University of Louisiana System and a selective admissions institution, McNeese offers degrees through six academic colleges: Business, Education, Engineering and Technology, Liberal Arts, Nursing, and Science. McNeese’s student body comprises over 8,500 students from throughout Louisiana, the United States, and approximately 50 countries. McNeese’s athletic programs are NCAA-certified for competition at I-AA and I-A levels. The soccer team won the school's first ever conference tournament title and appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2006. The McNeese State University campus in Lake Charles, Louisiana features 68 buildings on 500 acres dotted with live oak trees and azalea bushes. The McNeese community continues to use the three original structures - Kaufman Hall, Ralph O. Ward Memorial Gym (the Arena), and Francis G. Bulber Auditorium. Bulber Auditorium, a striking example of Art Deco architecture, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. McNeese State University upholds a long tradition of service to the Southwest Louisiana community and the nation. The University’s motto of “Excellence with a Personal Touch” extends beyond the classroom to offering help to others in times of need. During World War II, the campus was the headquarters of the Louisiana Maneuvers, an extensive military exercise to prepare American soldiers for battle. In 1957, the McNeese community gave aid and comfort to the victims of Hurricane Audrey and served as the National Guard’s base of rescue operations. McNeese provided shelter for New Orleans residents and university students ﬂeeing Hurricane Katrina in 2005. McNeese faced one of its greatest challenges when Hurricane Rita struck in the fall that same year. The storm caused devastating damage to campus facilities and infrastructure. The recovery effort after Hurricane Rita showed the community of Southwest Louisiana the high caliber of McNeese faculty, staff, and students in their commitment to complete the semester and move forward in support of the core values of academic excellence, student success, fiscal responsibility, and university/community alliances.

Dr. Philip C. williams President Dr. Philip C. Williams is the sixth president

of McNeese State University. He attended public schools in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974 as a Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating with honors in history. He earned his law degree at the Columbia University School of Law in New York City, with a certificate of achievement with honors from the Parker Program in Foreign and International law. During the course of his legal profession, he practiced corporate law and served as administrative vice president and counsel for Sea World, Inc. In 1994, Dr. Williams returned to Chapel Hill to earn his Ph.D. in Health Policy and Administration. Prior to beginning his career in higher education, he served for one year as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia. tommy McClelland is the seventh athletic director at McNeese State's 69 year history. He officially moved up from an interim position to full-time in the Spring of 2008 and on the occasion of his hire, McNeese President Dr. Robert Hebert said “Tommy is energetic, enthusiastic and a hard worker. We believe that he is the person to lead our athletics department as athletics director.” The Basile native and Northwestern State graduate, was quick out of the box. He formulated and drove home a two week travel plan that brought McNeese athletics to communities in Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana. And, he put together a "Partner with the Pokes" program for businesses. In the short time he has served as the athletic director, more than $2.5 million in renovation and construction has been applied to the facilities with the turfing of Cowboy Stadium field and the completion of the Hodges Street field house. . The addition of seating and team area improvements at the soccer field, covered seating behind home plate at the softball field along with the renovation of the baseball facilities- field, stands, dressing room, fieldhouse was also completed. Following the 2009 football season, the construction of a new $8 million Jack Doland fieldhouse will get underway. The department also conducted the most successful football season ticket campaign in school history in 2008, selling more than 8,000 season tickets. In the summer of 2008, McClelland was named as one of Southwest Louisiana's "Top 10 under 40" business leaders by the local magazine, the Times of Lake Charles. A native of Basile, McClelland is a graduate of Northwestern State where he was a football (H-back and deep snapper) and track (javelin) letterwinner. In high school at Basile High he earned all-state football honors and was the district's defensive MVP his senior year. Prior to being named McNeese athletic director, he served the university as coordinator of athletic events, sales and marketing. McClelland, who holds both a bachelor and master degree from Northwestern State, was also a graduate assistant in the athletics department at Northwestern State and worked at the Southland Conference office, assisting with championship events and securing corporate sponsorships.

Athletic Faculty Rep Michele Martin serves as the chairman of the McNeese State faculty athletic committee. Martin is head of the university’s Department of Music.

RYAN IVEY

Assistant AD/Internal Affairs ryan ivey is in his fourth season as the assistant athletic director i n c h a r g e of internal affairs. He handles game day operations, the day to day operations of the athletic department and scheduling. A native of Mayfield, Ky., he is a graduate of the University of Memphis where he also played football. He had previously served as Director of Operations at Memphis, coordinator of marketing and promotions at South Dakota and stadium operations with the Memphis Redbirds baseball team. He was a punter on the Memphis football team and played in the New Orleans Bowl and GMAC Bowl while also serving as team captain.

NATHAN FONTAINE

Ticket Coordinator and Marketing Director Nathan Fontaine, is the newest member of the athletic staff, having joined late in the summer. He has had previous experience in ticket sales and marketing with Arkansas, Sam Houston State and the University of Houston. He is a native of Pearland, Texas and a graduate of the University of Houston. He also holds a master degree in Business Administration from the university. He began his athletics career as a intern at the University of Houston.

LOUIS BONNETTE

Sr. Associate AD/Sports Information louis Bonnette is the university’s senior associate athletic director in charge of sports information. He is in his 45th year as the SID. A native of Pineville and a graduate of Louisiana Tech, he is also a past president (two terms) of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association and has been the recipient of the LSWA’s Mac Russo Award. He has received the Distinguished Service Award from the LSWA and has been inducted in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, in the sports journalism division. He is a member of the McNeese Hall of Fame which he founded and serves as its chairman and he was selected for the Southland Conference Hall of Honor. He was inducted into the CoSIDA Hall of Fame in 2009. He serves on CoSIDA’s academic all-American committee. Sons Michael (LSU) and Matthew (Northwestern State) are SIDs.

BRIDGET MARTIN

Assistant AD For Comliance/SWA Bridget Martin is in her seventh year as the university’s associate athletic director and is in her 10th year as the coordinator of compliance for the McNeese State athletics department. She also serves as the senior woman administrator for the university. A native of Lake Arthur, La., Martin had served as the McNeese women’s basketball coach before assuming her new role. During her 11 year coaching period, she served as head basketball coach for seven seasons and four seasons as co-head coach. She is a graduate of Louisiana Tech and coached St. Louis High (Lake Charles) to a state title in 1988-89. She serves on the NCAA compliance cabinet committee and various Southland Conference committees.

Candace DeVillier is in her year at McNeese State but first as volleyball secretary. DeVillier spent years as the women’s basketball secretary, years as the McNeese property control

Assistant SID/VB Contact Pam laFosse is now in her 23rd season as the assistant sports information director at McNeese State. She handles sports information duties for all women’s sports as well as helping with football, men’s basketball and track and field. She produces media guides, game programs and news releases for all women’s sports. A native of Gueydan, Louisiana, LaFosse is a graduate of McNeese State and is a former Cowgirl athlete, having been a four year letter winner in basketball from 1983-86. She is a member of the 1986 Southland Conference co-championship women’s basketball team.

MEGAN THORNTON

Assistant Ticket Manager Megan thornton is in her third year as a member of the ticket office staff. She is a native of Davidson, N.C. and a graduate of the Univeristy of Kentucky (2008) with a degree in Marketing and Management. Prior to joining McNeese, she worked at the Kentucky Sports Authority as was also and intern at the Davidson College ticket office.

Academic Counselor Deb Kingrey is in her 17th year at McNeese State and her fifth as the Academic Counselor for studentathletes. Kingrey spent 10 years working in the Financial Aid office and seven in the Allen Parish School system. The Tennessee native is a graduate of McNeese State University where she earned both her bachelor and master degrees.

Coord. of Athletic Development Pam McGough is in her sixth year with the McNeese Athletic Foundation. She coordinates the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts for athletic scholarships and individual athletic programs. A native of Vinton, La, she was raised in Lake Charles, graduating from McNeese with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing. McGough is an active member of the McNeese Alumni Association and served as president during the 96-97 school year.

McNeese state's Dowell "Doc" Fontenot sports Medicine Center is an ultra-modern facility and one of the most ﬁnest in the South. It is named after longtime McNeese athletic trainer Dowell Fontenot who was also a national champion boxer during his undergraduate days at the university and is a member of the McNeese Hall of Fame. The center is located South of the McNeese athletic ﬁeldhouse. Funds for the 6,200 square foot medical center were obtained from the state, private donations and the McNeese state PetroChem athletic association.

Zeb Hawkins and Chris smith serve as McNeese state's strength and conditioning coaches. Hawkins is in his fourth season as head coach and smith is in his second season as assistant. Both coaches are graduates of Northwestern state. The facility is named in honor of Charles Kuehn, McNeese State's ﬁrst All-American. The weight room is located in the ﬁeldhouse at the jack Doland athletic Complex. it has 2,000 square feet of workout space and 15,200 pounds of weights. there is 13,200 pounds of free weights and 2,000 pounds of dumbbells along with 30 workout stations- eight Olympic lifting platforms, eight squat racks, eight bench press stations, two leg presses, two leg curls and two lateral pull downs- all of the machines by Body Masters.

MEMORIAL GYM-- HOME TO COWGIRL VOLLEYBALL

Memorial Gym is home to McNeese State Volleyball who has a 33-9 record over the past five years, is located on the East side of campus and has seating for 315 fans. During the 2005 season, the Cowgirls played one match in Memorial Gym and played the remaining home schedule at the (SPAR) Sulphur Parks and Recreation Complex due to damages from Hurricane Rita. Constructed in 1949, the gym has gone through several renovations since then including a new ﬂoor, lighting and sound system and most recently new retractable bleachers. The facility played host to the 1997 Southland Conference Tournament. McNeese played only one home match in Memorial Gym in 2005 and played the rest of the home schedule at the Sulphur Parks and Recreation Aquatic Center. The Cowgirls also played their entire 2006 home schedule at the Aquatic Center due to Hurricane Rita in 2005. The McNeese Cowboy Club donated $35,000 to the volleyball program before the 2007 season for new bleachers.
