McNeese State competes in the Southland Conference which lists 12 members for baseball. Besides the Cowboys, other members are Central Arkansas, TAM-Corpus Christi, Texas-Arlington, Northwestern State, Stephen F. Austin, Nicholls State, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas-San Antonio, Sam Houston State, Lamar and Texas State. The Southland has been in existence since 1963 and McNeese State has been a member since 1972. McNeese is now the longest standing member of the league and during the 39 years the Cowboys have been in the conference, they have won three league titles (1988, 2000, 2006), two conference tournament crowns (1993, 2003) and have finished second three times, placing in the upper division a total of 17 times. The conference receives an automatic berth in the NCAA playoffs for its tournament champion. This year’s tournament will take place in San Marcos, TX.
