Pittsburgh District, US Army Corps of Engineers
The Pittsburgh District is one of seven districts that comprise the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A civil works district, we have an Army colonel assigned as District Engineer, but our technical chiefs, functional chiefs and most of our 600+ employees are civilians. Through its civil works program, the Corps carries out a wide array of projects that provide: coastal protection, disaster preparedness and response, environmental protection and restoration, flood protection, hydropower, navigable waters, recreational opportunities, regulatory oversight, and water supply.
