“I thought we did a real good job.” The Penguins remain a potent offensive bunch. But they’re also one that’s aware of the changing nature of the game as the stretch run and the playoffs come more into focus. “Teams are playing pretty tight but that’s something that as the year goes on isn’t going to get any easier,” captain Sidney Crosby observed before heading for Sochi, Russia and the Winter Olympics. “It gets tougher and tougher as you get closer to the playoffs.” Fellow Canadian Olympian Chris Kunitz concurred. “It’s a little more of a grinding game than maybe we’ve been used to for the first 50 games but every game’s going to be tight now,” he said. “There are going to be one-goal games. Everybody’s fighting for those points to position themselves for the playoffs.” The Penguins are aware they must respond accordingly, that they must play with structure and discipline to give themselves their best chance to win. “It’ll be a good test every time you go on the ice to try to compete and play more like playoff hockey,” Kunitz continued, looking ahead to the resumption of the NHL season tonight at CONSOL Energy Center against Montreal. “We’ve been talking about it for about a month now.
