2 Coombe Villas, Coombe DT9 4DB Fifty shades of green in a deceptively small space highlighting foliage and texture and created to encourage wildlife with resident slow worms, toads, damsel flies and dragonflies. The pond is home to newts and many frogs. Rare and unusual plants, a cloud-pruned gingko, informal box, and a mini grotto are contained within a garden of multi-levelled surprises. Please note the paths are narrow and uneven, with many steps and may be slippery when wet.
5 Richmond Road DT9 3HL Once a simple late Victorian patch of grass and side path, the garden is now full of roses, and anything that looks lovely with them! Like most gardens it’s still a work in progress, with the front garden to be tackled next.
1 Calder Gardens, Ludbourne Road DT9 3GA This is a patio garden at the rear of the house which contains 26 different roses in a single bed, with numerous tubs, flanked by a magnolia tree.
Owl House, 18 Johnson’s Court DT9 3TD A small walled and peaceful garden with high walls and climbing roses. There is also a summerhouse and water feature with a raised pond and goldfish. Refreshments available 11am - 4.30pm.
Old Hall, Newland DT9 3DU With views over Sherborne Castle, this garden is one of the oldest in the town with one of its walls dating back to the 14th century. It has a delightful collection of mature shrubs.
17&18 School Drive DT9 3SB (off Tinneys Lane) Both properties look out over Foster’s Field, each with a rear garden showing what can be achieved in a small garden. No 17 has a circular theme which is designed to be restful; but also to be productive with a small greenhouse and fan trained apple and pear trees. The front garden of No 18 is more angular with a clematis covered pergola with seating - then through to the rear garden - a visual surprise! Another pergola with grape vines and seating; an alpine bed, fruit and vegetable area - and a palm tree. Adjacent roadside parking - step and gravel make both unsuitable for a wheelchair or pushchair.
The Firs, Tinneys Lane DT9 3RX / DT9 3DY (from the waterwheel) The Firs is a fairly young but quirky, traditional garden. With alpines, roses, clematis, a gravel garden and lawn containing young fruit trees and set against an interesting Victorian ham stone house overlooking the castle. Some steep slopes and ancient steps.
