The Pinto World Championship was full of equine competition, but behind the scenes, there were plenty of family-friendly activities going on, as well. These included the PWC Welcome Party with hamburgers and hot dogs for all, the Youth and Amateur Ice Cream Social and many more. The Open Costume class is a wellknown and long standing tradition at the PWC. Exhibitors who participate in the class have the opportunity to show their “true colors” and imaginative sides. This year’s class showed some stiff competition, but the winning prize went to Simba and Rafiki (Thanks Give En and Chelsea Bagby) from The Lion King. Other

entries ranged from Santa, Mrs. Clause and Rudolph, a jockey and racehorse, Shrek, Fiona and Donkey, and even Captain Jack Sparrow and his crew. The evening was filled with fun and excitement from all of the exhibitors as the crowd cheered on their favorite characters. The annual PWC Dog Show is a favorite among many. This year, the dog show held events ranging from a costume class, an obstacle course, an owner look-a-like class and a trickster class. Each dog walked away with a bag of treats, but the top six dogs in each class were given ribbons! It was a record breaking year for the obstacle course with over 20 entries!

The Pink Your Pinto parade is always an emotional tribute. The parade was started by Pinto youth to support awareness and raise money for all types of cancer. They do their part to raise money for the Peggy and Charles Stephenson Cancer Institute by taking donations in the pink boots that they decorate. The Invitational Celebrity Walk/ Trot was a great opportunity to see several local, state and national dignitaries compete against each other on horseback. The Kansas City Chief’s very own Pinto, War Paint, and her rider, Susie, even made an appearance. Philanthropy is always at the heart of the Pinto Horse Associa-
