A recent study found that playing video games, such as our beloved Minecraft, is actually better for a child’s health than watching TV.Researchers at the University of Michigan conducted a study of snacking habits of 1,003 middle schoolers, finding that children who watched TV were more likely to eat junk food than children who played computer games or video games, NPR reports. “Our hypothesis is that when kids are watching TV, they’re going to be accessing commercials that are more likely to be food related,” says associate professor of medicine at the University of Michigan Health System, Dr. Elizabeth Jackson. Although the study did show that kids who watched TV and played games did eat more junk food than kids who watched less, the TV watchers were “most adept at eating chips and French fries”, most likely due to the fact that their hands were free from distractions such as typing on a keyboard or operating a game controller.
