PLA Welcomes New Members

We are honored to announce the addition of two new owner-member and four new associate members to our PLA community. Please welcome them with open arms: James and Lisa Palmieri, our new owner members, are happy to join the PLA with their two daughters Madison and Olivia. Regina Hobbs and her sons Ethan and Charlie, also owner members, are excited to move to the Pinewood Lake area. They already have many Booth Hill School friends in the association, which is a big reason they chose to move here! They are looking forward to hanging out at the lake with new and old friends this summer. Mary Beth and Phil Ryan join us with their two sons Patrick and Peter. Laurie and Anthony Storino join us with their daughters, Alyssa, Ashley and Anna. Laura and Richard (Ritt) Miller join us with their two daughters, Katelyn and Sophie. Ritt is a nurse at Bridgeport Hospital and Laura is a fifth grade teacher at BCDS, a private school in Stamford, CT. All of the Millers, especially Kate and Sophie, love crafts, cooking and family outings. Swimming and boating tops their list of enjoyable activities, as does long walks with their lovable mutt, Brittany. They’re looking forward to meeting new people and joining in the activities offered at Pinewood Lake. Joan and Jim LaBanca join us with their daughters Kristen and Abby.

Gas line installation I was as excited as many of you were while working to get SCG to install extensions of existing gas lines. The survey went well with approximately 80 members signing on and it was forwarded to Joe Tatroe, who was coordinating the program. He said it was given over to Michele, who in our conversation last month stated that everyone would be receiving a survey to determine exact numbers of those wanting gas line installation sooner than later. Since a few members did receive their survey letters, I assumed the mass mailing had occurred but went astray. In a recent conversation, I learned that most likely, the mailing has not yet been completed and is being processed by another dept. If you desire gas sooner than later I suggest calling Michele at SCG directly at 203-795-7701 and get the ball rolling as an individual homeowner. Please mention that you did sign up as part of the 80+ Pinewood members. Summer As our most active season approaches, we are in full swing preparing the Beach and Clubhouse for the summer festivities. I am hopeful that members will take it upon themselves to clean up and prepare the parcels in your plan for summer use. All boats must be registered. Contact Meg Wyckoff at if you have not yet registered. All boats must be stored properly which means removed from the water and racked. Boats should not simply be pulled partially on shore and left. This obstructs other boaters and fishing. Alcohol Alcohol consumption at Pinewood events and on the lawn on summer evenings has become an ever-increasing liability issue for the Lake. We have discovered certain situations where our liability insurance and hosting members’ homeowner policies no longer provide coverage when alcohol is involved. We just recently obtained coverage that is more comprehensive in time for the summer season, but even so going forward we may have to put certain restrictions on alcohol at Pinewood. Zebra mussels Zebra mussels were recently discovered in Lake Zoar and Lake Lillinonah, so here are some simple rules to protect Pinewood Lake. Before leaving any body of water: • Completely drain all water from your boat. • Inspect your boat, trailer, and equipment. Remove and discard all aquatic plants and animals you may have picked up while on the water. • At home, before returning vessel to Pinewood Lake • Rinse boat, trailer and equipment with tap water. A bleach solution can be used to clean live wells. Dispose of all rinsed material properly! When Fishing: • Do not dump your bait bucket or release live bait! Avoid introducing unwanted plants and animals. Unless your bait was obtained on site, dispose of it in a suitable trash container. • Do not transport fish, other animals or plants between water bodies. Release caught fish, other animals and plants only into the waters from which they came from. Zebra Mussels have the potential of ruining the ecology of our Lake. Please be careful and alert any officer if you see unauthorized, persons launching unregistered boats from any of our parcels. David J. Cosenza OD PLA President Cell: 203-257-3983 •
