Principal’s News Around this time of the year, I’m always amazed at how fast the school year is flying by. It feels like only a couple weeks ago that we were welcoming your students back from the summer, and already it is time to send out progress reports for the second quarter and we are facing down the holidays. I want to thank all of you for making this a smooth year and for the support you have shown the school. You hopefully have already heard that once again the school is sponsoring an adopt-a-family program for families in need this holiday season. I hope you will consider contributing to this good cause by donating an item that your child would like or family could use (see article on page 2). We will again be hosting our Christmas Around the World ceremony, where students will be presenting on various holiday traditions from around the world. This event is scheduled for Friday, December 17. While we would love to have parents attend to see the performances, our cafeteria is just not large enough to accommodate parents. We will, however, stream the presentations live at live.pinellasprep.org (baring any technical difficulties) for parents who wish to watch their children. One other reminder, I know many families have a lot of plans outside of school coming up over the next week. Please continue to make school a priority. We have noticed a lot of absences lately, and want everyone to remember that attendance needs to

remain a priority, because even if students make up their assignments from an absence, the learning and cooperative activities that occur in the classroom cannot be made up. Thank you again for your support.

Road Construction Update We’ve got good news, and we’ve got bad news. The good news is that the construction on Belcher north of our school is about to be completed. The bad news is that they are about to start on the next phase which will mean construction will be right in front of our school on Belcher. We have been in contact with the construction coordinators and they have assured us that both entrances will remain open, and that they will assist us in whatever ways they can with the flow of traffic. We are also looking into other options, such as asking the police department to assist with traffic. The construction shift is supposed to occur within the first or second week of December, and last approximately four months. We are also looking at other alternatives such as starting car circle early, opening up before care, etc. to assist with morning drop offs, and extended pick up time as needed for afternoons, but we will need to wait to see how the flow of traffic works once the construction begins. Please make sure you make plans accordingly to accommodate the traffic delays that may results as a result of the construction change.

“One act of kindness from each of us will help spread joy to many needy children”.

We Need Volunteers! Please help! PTEGVolunteers@pinellasprep.org

“The class with the most pennies at the end of the Penny Challenge will win a Pizza Party!”

We hope that you join us this year in our annual holiday project. One act of kindness from each of us will help spread joy to many needy children. PPA will be adopting families, along with having a “Toy” drive to help needy children in our community. We need your help! Please donate a new toy or other gift (see ideas below). Nothing is too small. Anything is appreciated. Business contributions of at least $100.00 are tax-deductible. The business’ name and description will be placed on our school’s website. Your contribution will be used to purchase specific toys and gifts which will help needy children and families on Christmas day. Thank you for helping these children have a happy and joyful holiday. GIFT IDEAS Games, sports balls/equipment, clothes, personal items such as perfume, bath items, makeup/hair accessories, cameras & electronics, arts & crafts, games & puzzles, toy and remote control cars, action figures & collectibles young children’s/toddler toys, dolls & stuffed animals, building sets & blocks, etc. Older children love the chance to receive gift cards from retailers such as Target, Wal-Mart, Borders, AMC Movie Theatres, Chick-fil-A's , Amazon, and iTunes. Gift cards from grocery stores and supermarkets such as Publix and Sweet Bay for our adopted families are always needed and always appreciated!

For questions, please email me kquagliotti@pinellasprep.org ~Kim Quagliotti, ESE / Small Group Teacher

Penny Challenge This wonderful event will run from January 31st thru February 25th. Please start saving your change! Your child will deposit their pennies into their homeroom teacher’s collection containers in the front office. They also can take their silver change and dollars and put that into the competing classes’ containers to deduct pennies from that class. The class with the most pennies at the end of the Penny Challenge will win a Pizza Party! Last year this event raised $1800 which was used to purchase books for the PPA library from the Scholastic Book Fair. Funds raised from this year’s Penny Challenge will once again be used to purchase books for the PPA library. ~Sarah Mercado PTEG Officer

8th Grade News

The 8th Grade Officers are:  Jordan Le o President  Dan Dorian o Vice President  Andrew Cook o Secretary  Griffin McKee o Treasurer

“We are all lucky to be a part of such a great school!”

8th Grade Officers are elected by their class and deal with issues that relate primarily with 8th grade. The officers are responsible for manning the snack cart, and they sell only to 8th grade students. As the treasurer, Griffin is responsible for counting the money on a weekly basis and depositing it with Miss Donna in the front office. This money is used for a variety of 8th grade needs including paying for a field trip for a child in need, paying for a field trip bus, or sending get well items home if an 8th grader has a long illness or surgery (cards, balloons, flowers, etc.). Snack cart money can also go toward fun events for the 8th grade class, like a pizza party. Officers serve their peers whenever they have a whole class event (such as their Thanksgiving Feast on the Friday before break). Officers work very hard soliciting donations for their charity, the American Red Cross. This year they held a bake sale, sold Boo Grams, and solicited donations from their classmates. According to Miss Donna, as of November 16th the 8th grade class has raised $293.25 for the American Red Cross. The position of 8th Grade Officer requires good academic grades as well as exemplary conduct. We are very proud of our Officers! ~Cindy Barber, 8th Grade Language Arts & Social Studies Teacher

The Great American Teach In was a huge success this year (see pics on page 6)! Our parents at PPA are the best! We had singers, writers, attorneys, doctors, military personnel, Native Americans, firefighters, newscasters, weathermen, a sea horse display and many more. A big thanks to all who participated! A huge thank you to Grill Smith, Olive Garden, and Seminole Family Restaurant for donating a beautiful and delicious lunch. Please support these restaurants and thank for helping PPA with their generous donations! Thanks as well to PTEG for the coffee, water, table settings and especially the volunteer help: Janis Johnston, Sarah Mercado and Jim Yanacheck. Our own PPA Student Council helped to direct the presenters to their rooms as did Madison Kozee and parents Britney Fink McCambridge and Valarie Doss. Last but not least the staff, (including Steve Tye) students, front office, and Mr. Fuller. Everyone together made this event educational as well as fun. We are all lucky to be a part of such a great school. ~Pam Biagini, Volunteer Coordinator
