She's an actress, an author, a busy mom and somehow Jessica Alba still found time to co-found a company devoted to creating natural and non-toxic baby products. Along with Christopher Gaviga, the"Fantastic Four" actress started The Honest Company to provide parents with safe family ,essentials including diapers, wipes bath, skin care and home cleaning products. She was inspired to start the company - which recently partnered with daily deals site zulily to offer kids' fashion, accessories, toys and gear - after the birth of her daughter Honor, now 4. Alba and husband Cash Warren are also parents to .16-month old daughter Haven

"When I became a mom, I finally became the person that I am, that I always should have been." Why did you start The Honest Co.? When I was pregnant with my first daughter :I read the book Healthy Child, Healthy World Creating a Cleaner, Greener, Safer Home by Christopher Gavigan and learned about toxic chemicals in everyday products like baby shampoo, diapers, home furnishings and household cleaners Shocked about this discovery, I spent hours upon hours researching products and trying to shop around the problem in Europe and Australia. I’d shell out way more money for the supposedly green products only to get home and find out the natural diapers I just bought still had the ingredients I was trying to avoid. And the few products that were safe never seemed to effectively clean. It was beyond frustrating. So, I created because I .needed and wanted it as a mom and I knew I could do it better .

What's one piece of advice would you give new moms?





Research everything from clothing to mattresses to cleaning products (read labels!) to find out .what’s really inside them and make sure what you’re bringing home is safe for your baby Frustratingly, I learned that many of the “green” products I bought still contained the toxic ,chemicals I was trying to avoid. Now, I stay away from items with chemicals like flame-retardants .harsh preservatives, plasticizers, or those made with petroleum-based ingredients And so you can share what you learn along the way, consider participating in a mom group - whether it’s a blog community or a in-person class - because it’s a great way to find friendship and support since everyone is transitioning through the same .stages at the same time

What are your top suggestions for women who want to become a ?“greener mommy” Don’t stress! First and foremost, read labels and do a bit of research. You will find eco- friendly .1 alternatives that make the most sense for your family. I know people feel like going “green” means an extreme lifestyle makeover is required. Not true. It’s really about educating yourself about options, doing what you can, and taking baby steps to get there. For some, eating organic is the priority. For others, improving air quality inside their home is what’s important. (FYI – The air quality inside most homes is more toxic than outside because of off-gassing and the use of toxic chemicals in everything from mattresses to wall paint.) Either way, it’s about making small choices !.that will have an impact on the health of you, your family, and the planet Switch to Non-Toxic Products. Through my work .2 ,for The Honest Company and Safer Chemicals Healthy Families, I’ve learned that the things we ,least suspect in our lives— mattresses, couches\ paint, diapers, cleaning products—are filled with ,toxins that have been linked to allergies, asthma ,and even cancer. So, make the switch to natural non-toxic, and organic household items. With that said, “greening” your home takes time and definitely won’t happen over night. I promise it’s a gradual process—even a few years after remodeling my house, I’m still making the switch to eco-friendly fixtures. But one thing that’s easy to do, doesn’t require a huge investment, and has immediate benefits is swapping conventional cleaners for safer, non-toxic brands like those from or you could even take a crack at .making your own at home if you feel so inclined You’ll breathe easier knowing your home doesn’t .have these toxins in the air

INGREDIENTS :Crust (cup pitted dates (soaked in warm water for 10 minutes then drained 1 cup raw walnuts or almonds 1 :Filling cups raw cashews, soaked in water 4-6 hours then drained 1.5 (large lemon, juiced (scant 1/4 cup 1 cup coconut oil, melted 1/3 (cup + 2 Tbsp full fat coconut milk (see instructions for note 1/2 (cup agave nectar or maple syrup (or honey if not vegan 1/2 :Optional Flavor Add-Ins Tbsp salted natural peanut butter 2 (cup wild blueberries (fresh or frozen 1/4 Tbsp bourbon caramel sauce 3

Add dates to a food processor and blend until small bits remain and it forms into a ball .Next add nuts and process into a meal Then add dates back in and blend until a loose dough forms – it should stick together when you squeeze a bit between your fingers Lightly grease a standard, 12 slot muffin tin To make removing the cheesecakes easier, cut strips of parchment paper and lay them in the slots. This creates little tabs that makes removing them easier to pop out once frozen


.Next scoop in heaping 1 Tbsp amounts of crust and press with fingers To pack it down, use a small glass or the back of a spoon to compact it and really press it down. Set in freezer to firm up Add all filling ingredients to a blender and mix until very smooth Divide filling evenly among the muffin tins ,Tap a few times to release any air bubbles then cover with plastic wrap and .freeze until hard – about 4-6 hours

HEALTHY RECIPES ,Grilled Almond butter Dark chocolate & Pomegranate Sandwich

A grilled sandwich on crusty wheat bread stuffed with almond butter, quality dark chocolate and pomegranate arils Author: Minimalist Baker Recipe type: Sandwich, Dessert Cuisine: Vegan Serves: 2 INGREDIENTS slices whole grain crusty bread 4 Tbsp dairy-free butter (Earth Balance) or olive oil 2 Tbsp roasted salted almond butter 4 squares dark chocolate 4 *Tbsp pomegranate perils 2-3 INSTRUCTIONS

Heat a large skillet over medium heat ,Butter the outsides of four slices of bread .then slather the inside with almond butter Next add two large squares of chocolate on top of the almond butter and top with pomegranate arils. Top with the other slice of bread, buttered side up and place the sandwich in .the skillet Push down with a heavy spatula to compress. Gently ip .when the bottom is browned and crusty – about 2-3 minutes .Cook for another 2-3 minutes on the other side Serve immediately
