the generosity of businesses and volunteers has been overwhelming. “The committee has worked so hard to pull this event together, we’re really excited to see it all come together on Sunday morning,” she said. “This event would not be the success it is without their support, and the support of the community.” The 4km course will take participants around Bulgarra, with the start and finish line located on Bulgarra Oval East. Entrants will be able to register on the day from 6:45am inside the Frank Butler Community Centre.

By Ben Leahy Rugby League takes a big step forward in the Pilbara this week with the season launch of the region’s junior league and visits by a string of elite stars. Current NRL players Rhys Wesser and Dean Young and retired stars Shaun Timmins and Adam Macdougall fly into Karratha this week to meet locals at a range of public clinics and schools visits from Saturday May 11 to Wednesday May 15. St George Illarwarra 2010 premiership player Young and former Illarawarra utility Timmins are the first to arrive as they attend the launch of Pilbara Rugby League’s junior and 9s competitions this Saturday and the Mother’s Day Classic fun run on Sunday. From Monday to Wednesday, Rabbitohs Indigenous player Wesser and former Australia representative Macdougall will then visit schools in Karratha and Wickham. NRL game development officer Chris Newman said the visits were about enriching Pilbara kids’ lives by giving them more sports to choose from. “We are focused on the kids as we see them as the future and, using the games influence and profile, the players hope they will make a

small impact to inspire kids to succeed on and off the field,” Newman said. The full itinerary can be seen below. Saturday May 11 – Pilbara Rugby League Juniors launch 8am-4pm, PRL 9s 4-8pm and PRL development function 8-11pm all attended by Young and Timmins. Sunday May 12 - Karratha Mother’s Day fun run 7-9am, Wickham and Roebourne junior clinic 10am-1pm and Wickham bistro function 3-5pm all attended by Young and Timmins. Monday May 13 - Educational leaders breakfast 7-9am, Tackle Bullying clinics at Karratha High and Baynton West Primary Schools from 8.30am-2.30pm and Sea Ripple development function from 7pm all attended by Wesser and Macdougall. Tuesday May 14 – Tackle Bullying clinics at St Luke’s, Pegs Creek, Tambrey and Millars Well schools 10.35am-2.30pm and Karratha Storm and Broncos junior clinic 5-7pm all attended by Wesser and Macdougall. Wednesday May 15 – Tackle Bullying clinic at Wickham Primary School 10.30am-2.30pm and Lawson Street youth clinic 4.30-6pm all attended by Wesser and Macdougall.
